After 16 seasons on the job, the Cincinnati Bengals finally parted ways with Marvin Lewis this offseason. Lewis made the woeful Bengals respectable after the franchise was the NFL’s laughing stock throughout the 1990s, and he took the team to the playoffs seven times. However, he failed to win a postseason game during any of those trips and that dubious achievement coupled with three straight losing seasons led to his departure. Former Nebraska quarterback Zac Taylor is the new man in charge of the Bengals, and there is about to be a major culture shift. He was just 20 years old when Lewis came to Cincinnati. ... 

Matt Nagy’s first season in charge of the Chicago Bears was a huge success. Chicago was predicted to finish last in the NFC North, but the team won the division and made the playoffs for the first time since 2010. The offense tallied more than 400 points for just the third time this century, and they are looking to build off of that this season. The Bears have only made the playoffs five times in the past 25 years, so getting back to the postseason would be quite the achievement. ... 

For the past seven seasons, the Carolina Panthers have alternated between winning at least 11 games and finishing below .500. The Panthers finished with six or seven wins in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018, and they finished with 12 wins in 2013, 15 wins in 2015, and 11 wins in 2017. Carolina is hoping that this trend can hold for at least one more year so they can return to the postseason in 2019. ... 

We will finally have an answer to who the Fastest Man in the NFL is this summer. There is a lot of buzz for the first-ever 40-yard dash tournament style competition this June, as 24 NFL players vie to see who among them is the fastest player in the league. This competition will feature 12 offensive players and 12 defensive players, and fans can vote on who will face off in the first round at the end of the month.... 

The Buffalo Bills are Josh Allen’s team now. Allen was the team’s first round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and the Bills are ready to see what they have with the former Wyoming Cowboys quarterback. He wasn’t a particularly accurate passer as a rookie, but anyone who watched him in college knew that it would be hard for him to be accurate in the NFL. However, he did prove himself to be a rather adept runner. It will be interesting to see how the Bills use Allen in that regard.... 

It’s not often that a quarterback that led his team to the Super Bowl gets traded, but that’s what happened to Joe Flacco. Flacco was dealt to the Denver Broncos for a fourth round pick in February so that the Lamar Jackson era could begin in earnest. Now, the Ravens fortunes rest on the Heisman Trophy winner’s shoulders, and he will look to follow in the footsteps of Pat Mahomes II by tearing the league up in his second season. ... 

Injuries derailed the Atlanta Falcons’ hopes of making it back to the postseason in 2018. The Falcons were just two years removed from nearly winning their first Super Bowl, but three of their best defenders missed most of the season, and that ruined their chances of making the playoffs for a third straight year. Atlanta is hoping to stay healthy and return to the postseason, but this is one of the toughest divisions in the NFL. ... 

No team fared worse than the Arizona Cardinals last season. The Cardinals finished 3-13 in 2018, and that led to Steve Wilks being one and done as the team’s head coach. Kliff Kingsbury is now the man in charge of Arizona, and there is a new first-round quarterback too. Josh Rosen was taken No. 10 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, but he was traded to Miami to make room for this year’s No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray. How Kingsbury and Murray fare over the next half-decade will determine whether or not Arizona can rise out of the doldrums. ... 

The Los Angeles Rams can’t wait to get on the field again. Since returning to Los Angeles three years ago, the Rams have improved by leaps and bounds from season to season. They went 4-12 upon their return in 2016, but the hiring of Sean McVay proved to be an inspired one. He helped make the offense one of the best in the NFL, and the Rams went 11-5 in 2017 and 13-3 last season. Of course, we all know what happened in the postseason, but Bill Belichick has made a habit of doing that over the last two decades. The Rams are ripe to return to the playoffs, and they are an odds-on favorite to win the NFC West. ... 

One of the most underrated divisional rivalries in the NFL might be the best rivalry in the league this season. The banter between the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons has reached a fever pitch. New Orleans finished last season with the best regular season record in the league, but a dubious no pass interference call against the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game helped keep them from making the Super Bowl. After hearing 28-3 from Saints fans the last few seasons, the Falcons were quick to show that turnaround is fair play and trolled New Orleans mercilessly this offseason. Those two teams are favored to win the NFC South in 2019, and their two meetings are going to be intense. ... 

The Chicago Bears were one of the surprise teams during the 2018 season. Chicago was expected by almost every analyst to finish in last place in the NFC North, but the Bears turned almost every projection upside down by cruising to a division title with a 12-4 record. The defense was fantastic after the addition of Khalil Mack, and the offense was pretty good in Matt Nagy’s first year in charge of the team. Although almost all of the best players from last year’s team are back, the Bears find themselves only slight favorites over Green Bay and Minnesota. ... 

The 2019 NFL draft was full of potential impact defenders chosen up high. That should make for an intriguing Defensive Rookie of the Year battle this season. Some of the candidates will be put in better situations than others immediately, which is something to keep in mind. Playing time, especially, is key as it allows player to rack up stats.... 

The Philadelphia Eagles are again the favorites to win the NFC East coming into this season. Philadelphia struggled to deal with a brutal schedule the year after winning the Super Bowl, but the Eagles managed to rally at the end of the season to make the playoffs. Now, they are hoping that Carson Wentz can stay healthy for a full season with Nick Foles moving to Jacksonville in the offseason. ... 

One thing about this award is that it takes numbers to win it. And to get the numbers you have to play. Since the 2000 season the Offensive Rookie of the Year award has been won nine times by a running back, seven times by a quarterback and just three times by a receiver. That gives you an idea where the candidates are coming from.... 

The AFC West was supposed to be one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL last year, and that proved to be correct. While Denver and Oakland fell off the pace pretty quickly, the Los Angeles Chargers stayed within striking distance of the Kansas City Chiefs and both teams finished at 12-4 after the Chiefs limped down the stretch. Those two teams are much bigger favorites to win the division this time around, as the Broncos and Raiders are considered also-rans. ... 

The race for the AFC South might be the tightest divisional race in the NFL in 2019. There isn’t much separating the favorite (Indianapolis) from the team with the longest odds (Tennessee), and that usually portends a close race between two or three teams throughout the year. The Houston Texans have won this division five teams this decade, while the Indianapolis Colts have won it three times, and the Jacksonville Jaguars have won it once. The Tennessee Titans have not won the AFC South since 2008. ... 

There’s no doubt which team is most hyped coming into the 2019 NFL season. Despite a 1-31 combined record in 2016 and 2017, the Cleveland Browns turnaround over the second half of the 2018 season has made this team the favorite to win the AFC North. Cleveland has only made the playoffs once (in 2002) since re-entering the NFL, but that’s no matter to those aboard the hype train. The NFL may change in a million other ways, but the New England Patriots will win the AFC East until Tom Brady is an octogenarian and Bill Belichick fulfills his destiny to become Darth Sidious. At least, that’s what it feels like. The Patriots have won 15 of the last 16 AFC East titles, and the only blip over that timespan was in 2008. That was the year Tom Brady tore his ACL in the season opener, but the Pats still managed to go 11-5 with Matt Cassel. Unsurprisingly, New England is a massive favorite to win the AFC East in 2019. ...
