However, he failed to win a postseason game during any of those trips and that dubious achievement coupled with three straight losing seasons led to his departure. Matt Nagy’s first season in charge of the Chicago Bears was a huge success. Chicago was predicted to finish last in the NFC North, but the team won the division and made the playoffs for the first time since 2010. The offense tallied more than 400 points for just the third time this century, and they are looking to build off of that this season. The Bears have only made the playoffs five times in the past 25 years, so getting back to the postseason would be quite the achievement. ... 

For the past seven seasons, the Carolina Panthers have alternated between winning at least 11 games and finishing below .500. The Panthers finished with six or seven wins in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018, and they finished with 12 wins in 2013, 15 wins in 2015, and 11 wins in 2017. Carolina is hoping that this trend can hold for at least one more year so they can return to the postseason in 2019. ...

The Buffalo Bills are Josh Allen’s team now. Allen was the team’s first round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and the Bills are ready to see what they have with the former Wyoming Cowboys quarterback. He wasn’t a particularly accurate passer as a rookie, but anyone who watched him in college knew that it would be hard for him to be accurate in the NFL. It’s not often that a quarterback that led his team to the Super Bowl gets traded, but that’s what happened to Joe Flacco. Flacco was dealt to the Denver Broncos for a fourth round pick in February so that the Lamar Jackson era could begin in earnest. Now, the Ravens fortunes rest on the Heisman Trophy winner’s shoulders, and he will look to follow in the footsteps of Pat Mahomes II by tearing the league up in his second season. ... 

Injuries derailed the Atlanta Falcons’ hopes of making it back to the postseason in 2018. The Falcons were just two years removed from nearly winning their first Super Bowl, but three of their best defenders missed most of the season, and that ruined their chances of making the playoffs for a third straight year. The Los Angeles Rams can’t wait to get on the field again. Since returning to Los Angeles three years ago, the Rams have improved by leaps and bounds from season to season. They went 4-12 upon their return in 2016, but the hiring of Sean McVay proved to be an inspired one. He helped make the offense one of the best in the NFL, and the Rams went 11-5 in 2017 and 13-3 last season. Of course, we all know what happened in the postseason, but Bill Belichick has made a habit of doing that over the last two decades. The Rams are ripe to return to the playoffs, and they are an odds-on favorite to win the NFC West. ... 

One of the most underrated divisional rivalries in the NFL might be the best rivalry in the league this season. The banter between the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons has reached a fever pitch. New Orleans finished last season with the best regular season record in the league, but a dubious no pass interference call against the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game helped keep them from making the Super Bowl. After hearing 28-3 from Saints fans the last few seasons, the Falcons were quick to show that turnaround is fair play and trolled New Orleans mercilessly this offseason. Those two teams are favored to win the NFC South in 2019, and their two meetings are going to be intense. ... 

The Chicago Bears were one of the surprise teams during the 2018 season. Chicago was expected by almost every analyst to finish in last place in the NFC North, but the Bears turned almost every projection upside down by cruising to a division title with a 12-4 record. The defense was fantastic after the addition of Khalil Mack, and the offense was pretty good in Matt Nagy’s first year in charge of the team.
