NFL Week 10 Major Line Moves - Football Betting

The public had a great week at the betting window last week and a bunch of fans are back for more, pounding the early lines on the NFL Week 10 schedule. We’ve seen movement in every game with a few as much as a field goal. Others have gone off the opening number only to come back to it. Four games currently have a spread of 10 points or more and surprisingly the Bills aren’t involved in any of them. The Chiefs at -17 opened as the biggest favorite, but that number has been wagered down a half-point.

Football in southern California is much better than what their neighbors to the north are playing. The Rams and Chargers are both 10-point chalk for their matchups with the Bolts in Oakland. Despite losing two games in a row, the Packers were wagered to a 10-point favorite for their tilt with the Miami Dolphins.

Let’s take a more in depth look at a few games that have seen some shifting in the line since the numbers hit the board.

Week 10 Major Line Moves

Carolina Panthers at Pittsburgh Steelers

Opening Line: Steelers -5

Current Line: Steelers -3

The betting week kicks off on Thursday night with two teams playing exceptional football. Carolina has brought back memories of it magical 2015 run to the Super Bowl the way the offense is performing, and the betting public has taken notice. With the Panthers showered with early money they went from a 5-point opening dog to a 3-point dog. The impressive display started three weeks ago when Cam Newton led his club to 21 fourth quarter points and a win in Philadelphia. It continued the following week with a near 400-yard game against Baltimore’s No. 1 ranked defense. Last week, the Panthers gouged the Bucs for 42 points in their third straight win.

The Steelers are historically good on their home field and they too are playing good football. The Le’Veon Bell saga has been put in the backseat and James Conner has emerged as the next top back. But their four-game winning streak has been spurned by a defensive turnaround. The Steelers have held their last four opponents to 21 points or fewer to take control of the AFC North.

Buffalo Bills at New York Jets

Opening Line: Jets -8.5

Current Line: Jets -6.5

In the Jets, the Bills are getting an opponent more along the same lines as them. And getting 8.5-points on the opening spread in what is the pillow fight of the week was too much to pass up. Buffalo got hit hard when the line surfaced and we saw the opening number get wagered below the key indicator of 7 and down to 6.5. The actual 2-point move isn’t much, but where the line went sure is, especially in a game where points are expected to be at a premium. The carousel of quarterbacks in Buffalo hasn’t helped the offense, which remains on a record pace of futility.

The Jets can empathize with Buffalo’s plight after tip-toeing through their last three games, all of which were losses. Over that span they scored a total of 33 points for an average of 11 per game. At least the Jets have shown they can score, twice eclipsing the 40-point mark and getting 34 in another. The Bills can’t even do that. They’ve topped out at 27 points this year and are averaging just 10.7 points per game.

Washington Redskins at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Opening Line: Pick ‘em

Current Line: Buccaneers -3

Potentially down four starting offensive linemen has given Bucs backers a glimmer of hope. This game opened as a toss-up and plenty of action on Tampa after the Skins lost several players to injury in last week’s game boosted the line in favor of the Bucs. Adrian Peterson has proven he still has something left, but trying to run behind a group of guys whose names he probably doesn’t even know will be the ultimate test.

All the excitement of their 2-0 start has disappeared as the Bucs have lost five of their last six games and have gone back to Ryan Fitzpatrick to try and rekindle some of that early season magic. Jameis Winston struggled with 10 interceptions after returning from his suspension, not helping a defense that ranks last in points allowed per game. Nearly 66 percent of the betting public is siding with Tampa’s leaky defense over the Skins’ banged up O-line.
