MMA Betting

UFC Fight Night 144 takes place on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Arena CFO in Castelao, Brazil. The card streams live on ESPN+.

Another Brazil event, another loaded fight card. UFC Fight Night 144 in Brazil brings us a bantamweight title eliminator, the featherweight GOAT, one of the best pure jiu-jitsu artists of all time, and a slew of exciting prospects.

In the main event, No. 3 bantamweight Raphael Assuncao meets No. 4 Marlon Moraes. Assuncao is one of the best 135-pounders never to get a title shot - you’d figure 11-2 octagon record the guy would’ve fought for the strap by now.The 36-year old actually welcomed Moraes - a former WSOF champ - to the octagon in 2017, taking a unanimous decision win.

Since the loss, Moraes has won three straight, notching back-to-back knockout of the year contenders over Aljamain Sterling and Jimmie Rivera. In the money fight era, scoring highlight reel finishes is how you get noticed. Though champion T.J. Dillashaw is tied up with Henry Cejudo, and it only makes sense that the winners face each other.

The addition of Jose Aldo truly makes this card shine. Say what you want about Holloway being the featherweight GOAT, but Aldo’s title defenses are tough to argue against. Coming off a thrilling win over Jeremy Stephens, Scarface is now in the role of elder statesman, looking to fend off a surging young lion. Renato Moicano owns wins over Jeremy Stephens, Calvin Kattar, Cub Swanson and came within a few minutes of beating No. 1 contender Brian Ortega.

UFC Fight Night 144 Lineup (Subject to Change)

Main Event, Bantamweight - Raphael Assuncao vs. Marlon Moraes

Bantamweight contenders Raphael Assuncao (27-5, 4 KOs, 10 SUBs) and Marlon Moraes (21-5, 10 KOs, 5 SUBs) will meet at UFC Fight Night 144 on Saturday Feb 2, 2019 at Arena CFO in Castelao, Brazil. The card streams live on ESPN+ starting 8pm ET. Time for a title eliminator! No. 3 bantamweight Raphael Assuncao and No. 4 Marlon Moraes both have solid cases to challenge TJ Dillashaw for the throne, but either one could cement their shot at the champ when they meet inside the octagon this Saturday in Brazil. Featherweight - Jose Aldo vs. Renato Moicano

Former featherweight champion Jose Aldo (27-4, 16 KOs, 1 SUB) will meet contender Renato “Moicano” Carneiro (13-1, 6 SUBs) at UFC Fight Night 144 on Saturday Feb 2, 2019 at Arena CFO in Castelao, Brazil. The card streams live on ESPN+ starting 8pm ET. Does Jose Aldo have another title run in him? Despite losing three of his last five, the featherweight GOAT bounced back from two thumpings at the hands of Max Holloway with a rousing win over Jeremy Stephens in his last matchup. Now, the former champion meets No. 4 Renato Moicano in high-stakes matchup this Saturday in Brazil. More

Welterweight - Demian Maia vs. Lyman Good

No. 8 welterweight Demian Maia 25-9 (3 KOs, 12 SUBs) will meet Lyman Good (20-4, 10 KOs, 3 SUBs) at UFC Fight Night 144 on Saturday Feb 2, 2019 at Arena CFO in Castelao, Brazil. The card streams live on ESPN+ starting 8pm ET. How much does time does Demian Maia have left? At 41 years old, the decorated grappling specialist is coming off three straight losses - all matchups where he was dominated. Of course, that could just have been the result of his competition: champion Tyron Woodley, former interim champion Colby Covington and current title challenger Kamaru Usman. More

Women’s Strawweight - Alexa Grasso vs. Marina Rodriguez

Light Heavyweight - Johnny Walker vs. Justin Ledet

Bantamweight - Ricardo Ramos vs. Said Nurmagomedov

Welterweight - Thiago Alves vs. Max Griffin

Flyweight - Rogerio Bontorin vs. Magomed Bibulatov

The card streams live on ESPN+ starting 8pm ET. While the middleweight division filled with great fighters in the top seven, the bottom half of the top 15 could use some new blood. There’s guys like Uriah Hall, Elias Theodorou and Antonio Carlos Junior that don’t really get anyone excited. Perhaps the undefeated Anthony Hernandez can make some noise. More

Women’s Strawweight - Lininha Souza vs. Sara Frota

UFC Fight Night 144 Betting Lines, Predictions and Picks

The rematch between Assuncao and Moraes runs back a close split decision that could’ve gone either way. In fact, many media outlets scored it in Moraes’ favor. Let’s hope that we get a conclusive result this time, though that might be difficult considering how competitively matched both guys were.

Aldo vs. Moicano should be a striker’s delight. Though Moicano is BJJ black belt, his recent success really was due to his crisp standup. It takes a special kicboxer to outstrike Jeremy Stephens and Cub Swanson, and Moicano was clearly the better man in those matchups. But this is Jose freakin’ Aldo, who still has some of the fastest hands in the business and put together a legendary resume on the strength of his Muay Thai.

When it comes to mat skills, there might not be a more a more decorated fighter than Demian Maia. Just a year ago, Demian rolled his way to a title shot, but three consecutive matchups against elite wrestlers have resulted in crushing losses. Luckily for him, Lyman Good isn’t a wrestler - but his explosive punching power presents a different set of problems.

Mexico’s Alexa Grasso was once the undefeated prospect that the UFC was banking on to become a star. Now 1-2 in her last three, Grasso meets the Marina Rodriguez, who is in the familiar position of being 10-0. Rodriguez fought Randa Markos to a majority draw in her UFC debut - we’ll have to wait to see if the knockout power she showed in regional promotions translates to the big show.
