UFC Fight Night 136: Hunt vs. Oleynik

UFC Fight Night 136 (Moscow) takes place on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the Olimpiysky Arena in Moscow, Russia. The card airs live on UFC Fight Pass, with heavyweight contender Mark Hunt meeting native Russian Alexiy Oleynik in the main event.

The Americans are coming. Dana White and the UFC will hold its first event in Russia with a Fight Pass card that feels too important to be a digital streaming offering. While there aren’t huge names or high stakes fights, it’s a historic moment for a country that could be huge for the promotion.

MMA is a big deal in Russia. Current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is a superstar in the country, Fedor Emelianenko is an established legend, and there are plenty of well-known Russians fighting in the world’s best organizations. The only reason that it took so long for the UFC to make its way there was it’s refusal to co-promote with M-1, which is the country’s premier regional organization.

Times have changed. The UFC and M-1 will co-promote UFC Fight Night 136, and the card is filled up with natives to fire up the crowd. In the main event, heavyweight knockout artist Mark Hunt meets Alexiy Oleynik, a master of the elusive ezekiel choke. Belarusian native and former champion Andrei Arlovski is scheduled to meet Dagestan’s Shamil Abdurakhimov as well.

Who else? We’ve got Omari Akhmedov in a welterweight contest with veteran CB Dolloway, and Merab Dvalishvili scrapping with American Terion Ware. Undefeated Adam Yandiev will make his UFC debut against the respected Krzysztof Jotko of Poland.

Take a look at some of the fights below, and log into the sportsbook to see the lines for every fight on the card. Make sure to check in during fight week for in-depth betting previews. We’ve got UFC odds from BookMaker.eu if they’ve been released.

What to Watch For

When it comes to walkoff knockouts, Mark Hunt is the king. But Oleynik’s penchant for ezekiel chokes is nothing short of amazing. It’s a rare submission that the Russian consistently snags, as he’s already done so twice in his past four fights. The aptly named “Boa Constrictor” is a veteran of 67 fights and has 44(!) submissions wins to his credit. With a stunning number of neck cranks, arm triangles and ezekiels, it’s really not a good idea to be on the bottom against this guy.

However, Hunt has been fighting dudes who want to take him down for a long, long time. Against elite wrestlers, like Curtis Blaydes and Stipe Miocic, Hunt got owned. But lesser guys have had a lot of trouble going that route. If Oleynik can survive Hunt’s power and get this to the mat, he’s got an excellent shot at earning the biggest win of his career.

Andrei Arlovski might be 39 years old, but it appears he’s still got something left to offer. While his time as a contender is done, the Belarusian is still a stiff test for heavyweights looking to climb the ladder. An experienced vet and a skilled boxer, “The Pit Bull” will look to fight back father time against Shamil Abdurakhimov, a hard-hitting midcard fighter. Should Abdurakhimov knock out Andrei - as so many others have done - expect to hear some very vocal calls for retirement.

Omari Akhmedov hails from Dagestan, and like so many fighters from that region, has serious wrestling skills. That’s gonna get tested against CB Dolloway, who is a product of the NCAA system. Expect to see a few high-level grappling exchanges in this one.

When somebody is as swole as Adam Yandiev, you take notice - especially when they’re undefeated. Yandiev is 9-0 with 9 finishes, with six coming by way of submission. Let’s see if he can power his way through a vet like Jotko, who was a top-15 fighter just two years ago.
