Hot damn, the UFC is going BIG for its inaugural Fight Island event.

First, the main event: Kamaru Usman is coming off one of the best title fights in recent memory, stopping arch-rival Colby Covington in a grueling five-round war. It was his first title defense and 14th straight win - bringing his UFC record to 11-0 with wins over Maia, RDA, Woodley, and Covington in his past four. When it’s all said and done, we could be looking at an all-time run here.

Jorge Masvidal won’t make it easy. He has won his last three bouts, knocking out Darren Till in March of last year, knocking out Ben Askren in July of last year and winning by TKO against Nate Diaz at UFC 244 in November of last year.

Usman opened as a big -295 favorite in the online sportsbook, with Masvidal at +225 on the comeback. We’d expect the money lines to stay in these ranges: the champ is a monster physical specimen with a well-rounded skill set, but he’s not a guy that dominates dudes.

In the co-main event, featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway face off in an immediate rematch. Volkanovski pulled off a solid upset, taking the belt away from the Hawaiian and snapping a 14-fight win streak at 145 pounds. While the division is not lacking for elite contenders, Blessed built up enough equity as a longtime champion to warrant a head of the line pass.

The big storyline here is whether Holloway can make the necessary adjustments. Volkanovski put together a masterful game plan and had the power and quicks to flummox a dude that seemed unstoppable. It’s easy to assume that history repeats itself, especially given the nature of the first fight, but never underestimate how quickly the best fighters can turn the tide.

Still, Holloway is a big underdog here: the UFC odds at BookMaker.eu opened with Blessed at +170. Volkanovski is your chalk at -217. Oddsmakers seem to be convinced that the Aussie has Holloway’s number.

But wait, there’s more! Wanna see a legend throw down against a young killer? Better yet, wanna see ‘em fight for a vacant title? Then Jose Aldo vs. Petyr Yan is your jam. Aldo is the greatest featherweight of all time and looks to become part of the select few to become a double champ. It’s definitely fair to question whether Aldo deserves this fight - he’s lost two straight - but everyone can agree he can still bring it at a high level.

Yan is a 27-year old boxing dynamo thudding power. The best part is that he’s absolutely fearless, coming straight forward, trapping dudes, and blasting away. He might not have the knockouts, but you only need to watch a few minutes of his highlights to know this is a heavy, heavy hitter. While he might respect the legend, he’s coming straight for Aldo’s head.

Though Aldo is game, Yan opened as -232 favorite in the online sportsbook. Aldo has an uphill battle fighting a younger, faster fighter.

Also on the main card is a rematch between former champions Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade. Quick refresher: in 2019, Andrade slammed Namajunas into oblivion to win the belt. But prior to that finisher, Namajunas was absolutely lighting up the Brazilian. In fact, for nearly eight minutes, Thug Rose looked far and away from the best fighter in the most stacked women’s division.

Did she get caught, or is Andrade too physical for the lanky Rose? Honestly, it seems like a case where Namajunas wins 99 times out of 100. If she can pull off the win this time, a title shot is next in line. She might have to wait until Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk go at it again.
