Shakur Stevenson vs. Miguel Marriaga Betting Odds

There have yet to be boxing betting odds released for this bout, but Stevenson is set to be a heavy favorite. The Olympic medalist is undefeated and heralded as one of the next great boxers, while Marriaga has lost two of his last three bouts.

To those unfamiliar with betting on boxing, if Stevenson opens as a -1500 favorite in this bout, you have to bet $1500 on him to win $100 in profit. Those odds would probably lead to Marriaga being a +800 underdog, so a $100 bet on him would return $800 in profit if the Colombian was to stun everyone in attendance.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Shakur Stevenson vs. Miguel Marriaga Preview

Stevenson was heavily decorated as both a youth fighter and an amateur boxer, and he has been hyped as one of the next greats since turning pro in 2017. His professional career got off to a rough start, as his bout with Edgar Brito was stopped after multiple headbutts from his opponent. Stevenson had not dropped a round on any of the judges’ cards at the time the fight was stopped though, and he was awarded a technical decision.

He won his next eight bouts (five by TKO) to earn a shot at his first title at the ripe age of 21. Stevenson claimed the IBF Inter-Continental and WBC Continental Americas titles by stopping Jessie Cris Rosales in a fourth-round TKO, and he added the WBO-NABO Featherweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Christopher Diaz in April 2019.

Almost three months after that victory, Stevenson knocked out Alberto Guevara in the third round to earn a shot at his first major title. He made the most of it by beating Joet Gonzalez by unanimous decision in October 2019, and this will be his first title defense.

Marriaga’s professional career began almost 12 years ago in Colombia, and it took some time before he was known to fans outside of the country. He didn’t leave Colombia until his 11th bout when he traveled to Mexico City, and he won the WBC Continental Americas Featherweight belt in his return to Mexico eight months later.

His first fight outside of Latin America was in October 2014 when he knocked out Christopher Martin in the sixth round in Santa Monica. He returned to the United States in June 2015 to take on Nicholas Walters for the WBA Super Featherweight title, but he lost by unanimous decision to move to 20-1 in his career.

After the defeat, Marriaga won his next five fights, claiming the WBO-NABO Featherweight strap and successfully defending it before taking on Oscar Valdez for the WBO Featherweight belt in April 2017. He lost that bout by unanimous decision, and he was stopped in his return to the ring four months later when he met Vasyl Lomachenko for the WBO Junior Lightweight belt. Marriaga knocked out Jose Estrella in the fourth round in his last fight back in November 2018.
