Ryan Garcia vs. Francisco Fonseca Betting Odds

There have yet to be boxing betting odds released for this bout, but Garcia is going to be favored according to the oddsmakers. This promotion is tailor-made for him, and he is unlikely to have much of a problem beating Fonseca.

To those unfamiliar with betting on boxing, if Garcia opens as a -1500 favorite in this bout, you would have to bet $1500 on Garcia to win $100 in profit. Those odds would probably lead to Fonseca being a +700 underdog, so a $100 bet on the challenger would return $700 if Fonseca did the improbable and dealt Garcia his first defeat.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Ryan Garcia vs. Francisco Fonseca Preview

Garcia showed so much talent as an amateur boxer that he went south of the border to start his professional career at the age of 17. He defeated his first three opponents by first-round TKO in the span of a month, and then he won by unanimous decision in his last fight in Mexico. He came back to the United States to fight as soon as he turned 18, wasting no time proving that he was one of the best young fighters.

His quick work of his next six opponents raised plenty of eyebrows. Garcia won his first six fights in the United States inside of two rounds, leading to an early title shot. With his first belt within reach, Garcia dismantled Miguel Carrizoza in September 2017, knocking him out in the first round to win the WBC-NABF super featherweight title. He defended that strap successfully three times before challenging Jayson Velez for the WBO-NABO super featherweight in May 2018. Garcia was tested in that bout, but he won a unanimous decision over Velez to hold both belts.

In his next fight, Garcia’s undefeated record nearly suffered a blemish. Carlos Morales challenged him more than any other boxer has to date, as Garcia won by majority decision. The 21-year-old made the decision to move up to the lightweight decision shortly after escaping with a win, and he knocked out Romero Duno in the first round in November to claim the WBO-NABO and WBC Silver lightweight belts.

Successful fighters usually string together a number of victories at the start of their careers, but Francisco Fonseca’s path to this point has not been ordinary. The Costa Rican boxer’s very first professional fight ended in a draw, but he showed that he was one of the top fighters in the region shortly after that setback. Fonseca won 19 straight bouts after the draw, earning a title shot against Gervonta Davis in August 2017. He was unable to pull off the upset in that fight though, losing by eighth-round TKO.

Fonseca won his next three bouts, claiming the WBO Latino super featherweight title in the process. That led to Fonseca getting another crack at the IBF super featherweight title, held by Tevin Farmer at this point. That bout was much closer, but Farmer won by unanimous decision.

In his last bout, Fonseca took on Alex Dilmaghani for the IBO super featherweight title. That fight ended in a draw, and Fonseca is moving up in weight for this fight.
