Raymundo Beltran vs. Richard Commey

Certainly, Beltran will enter this fight as a capable challenger. But he is yet to show he can get over the championship hump. However, Commey is a proven champion at this level.

International Boxing Federation World Lightweight Title

When Richard Commey lost the International Boxing Federation lightweight title bout to Robert Easter Jr. on September 9, 2016 in a split decision, he used that as motivational fire to get another shot at the title and vowed to himself to win it if that opportunity ever arose. Comey now holds the IFC lightweight title and will defend his title belt for the first time on June 29 when he faces Ray Beltran at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula.

Richard Commey is 32 years old and a native of Ghana where he still resides. Commey has a career record of 28-2 with 25 out of his 28 wins coming by knockout. Commey is ranked fourth in the world. He stands at five feet, nine inches tall with a reach of 71 inches and fights from an orthodox stance.

Ray Beltran has come close to a championship belt with three challenges for the World Boxing Organization word lightweight title but was never able to quite get over the hump. Beltran is a former WBC-NABF lightweight champion.

“Sugar” is 37 years old and is a native of Mexico that now resides in Phoenix, Arizona. He has a career record of 36-8-1 with a total of 22 knockout wins for his career. Beltran has suffered two knockout losses. He is ranked eighth in the world and stands at five feet, eight inches tall with a reach of 67 inches and fights from an orthodox stance.

Beltran last stepped into the ring on February 10, 2019 when he faced Hiroki Okada at the Save Mart Arena in Fresno for the vacant World Boxing Council Americas and World Boxing Organization inter-continental super lightweight titles. Beltran scored a ninth-round technical knockout win.

Prior to that on August 25, 2018 Beltran face Jose Pedraza for the World Boxing Organization world lightweight title at the Gila River Arena in Glendale. Pedraza won the world championship bout by unanimous decision.

Richard Commey won the International Boxing Federation world lightweight title on February 2, 2019 when he scored a second-round knockout win over Isa Chaniev. The fight took place at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco.
