There have yet to be boxing betting odds released for this bout, but we should see lines posted at least a few days prior to the title fight. Leo Santa Cruz is expected to be favored over Miguel Flores due to Santa Cruz’s track record.

To those unfamiliar with betting on boxing, let’s assume that Santa Cruz was a -500 favorite per the boxing betting odds. That means a $500 bet on Santa Cruz would return a $100 profit provided he won the bout. However, if Flores won the fight as say a +350 underdog according to the boxing odds, a $100 wager on Flores would earn a cool $350 profit.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

WBA Super Featherweight Championship

Boxers in lighter weight classes typically don’t get the credit they deserve from the public, so Santa Cruz is largely known only to diehards in the boxing community. However, he has continually proven that he is one of the best pound for pound boxers in the world with a 36-1-1 record and titles in the Bantamweight, Super Bantamweight, and Featherweight divisions. This is his first bout at Super Featherweight, and his reputation precedes him.

Unlike most other top boxers, Santa Cruz suffered a dent in his resume early in his professional career. He drew Rodrigo Hernandez in his second bout as a pro, but he won his next 18 fights to set up his first title shot. Santa Cruz won his first strap in June 2012 by beating Vusi Malinga in a unanimous decision for the IBF Bantamweight title and has not looked back.

His lone defeat came in his second title defense of the WBA Super Featherweight Belt. He lost a majority decision to Carl Frampton in July 2016, but he avenged that defeat six months later by beating Frampton in a majority decision to win the title back. Santa Cruz went on to defend the title three more times before making the move to Super Featherweight for this fight.

This is Flores’ first title shot. Flores won his first 22 fights before an awful 2017 sent his career sideways. He suffered his first defeat at the hands of Dat Nguyen in February 2017, losing to Nguyen by TKO in the sixth round, and he was forced to retire in the fifth round of his bounceback fight against Chris Avalos five months later.

Those defeats led to Flores moving down a few pegs in his weight class, but he responded by winning his next two fights by TKO to set up this bout. Flores beat Raul Chirino by TKO in the second round in April 2018, and he stopped Luis May in the sixth round in June.
