Jack’s recent results are littered with decision wins, losses, and draws, including his first fight with Pascal. The judges in that bout gave Pascal a split decision win with two judges calling it 114-112 in favor of Pascal and the other judge calling it 114-112 in favor of Jack. It seems likely that the rematch will go to the cards too, but both Pascal and Jack are hoping to settle it within the distance.

WBA Light Heavyweight Title

Badou Jack made his professional debut in 2009. He quickly ran off 15 consecutive wins to earn considerable buzz in the boxing world. His first blemish came in his first title fight though, as he fought Marco Antonio Periban to a draw with the WBC-NABF super-middleweight belt on the line in September 2013.

Jack’s first chance to win a major title came in April 2015. He took on Anthony Dirrell for the WBC super-middleweight title, and he secured a majority decision win. His first three title defenses were rather shaky though. Jack had to settle for a split decision victory over George Groves five months after winning his title, and he won a majority decision over Lucian Bute in his next title defense. His bout with James McGale that also had the IBF and The Ring super-middleweight belts on the line ended in a majority draw, showcasing that he failed to distinguish himself from his opponents.

Finally, he secured a convincing win when he moved up to light heavyweight and took down Nathan Cleverly by fifth round knockout to win the WBA light heavyweight belt.

Unfortunately, the old issues crept up again as he could only secure a draw in his initial title defense against Adonis Stevenson.

His next fight was one of the worst of his career as he suffered a convincing unanimous decision loss to Marcus Browne. Jack hoped to rebound against Pascal almost a year later, but he lost that bout by split decision. The last time we saw him, he secured a unanimous decision win over Blake McKernan in eight rounds as part of the promotion involving Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr.

Jean Pascal has had a long career full of ups and downs. His first title fight came in December 2008 when he took on Carl Froch for the WBC super-middleweight belt. Pascal came into that fight with a record of 21-0, but he lost a unanimous decision to Froch after his opponent took over in the later rounds despite having a perforated eardrum and a cracked rib.

That loss didn’t set him back too much though, as Pascal claimed the WBC light heavyweight belt six months later. He defeated Adrian Diaconu by unanimous decision and then successfully defended that belt against Silvio Branco before taking down Diaconu a second time. Pascal added IBO and The Ring belts in that division too before losing them both over the course of two fights with Bernard Hopkins.

His next four title challenges resulted in losses. Sergey Kovalev stopped him in the eighth round and seventh round over the span of 10 months with the WBA, IBF, and WBO light heavyweight belts on the line. Pascal lost a majority decision to Eleider Alvarez for the WBC Silver light heavyweight belt, and then he lost a unanimous decision to Dmitry Bivol for the WBA light heavyweight title. We saw him deal Marcus Browne his first loss in a strange fight before his split decision win over Jack.

Jean Pascal vs. Badou Jack

Jack was a -230 favorite the last time these boxers squared off in the ring. He is likely to be favored by a similar margin in the rematch, making Pascal the play given the history of both fighters.
