Erislandy Lara vs. Ramon Alvarez

This is a golden opportunity for both fighters here. Lara can return to the championship status that he once held not that long ago. Alvarez can win his first world title in what is by far the biggest fight of his career.

World Boxing Association World Super Welterweight Title

Erislandy Lara is 36 years old and is ranked third in the world. He is a native of Cuba that now resides in Houston, Texas. Lara stands at five feet, nine inches tall with a reach of 75 inches and fights from a southpaw stance. Lara is a past World Boxing Association light middleweight champion from 2014 through 2018. He was promoted in 2016 to “Super” champion. Lara is heralded as one of the most technically proficient boxers of all. While representing Cuba he won multiple Gold medals during international competition.

Erislandy Lara has been in a slump, at least by his standards, with a draw and a loss in his last two bouts. Last time out Lara faced Brian Carlos Castano at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on March 2, 2019. Lara and Castano fought to a split decision draw in a 12-round bout.

Prior to that on April 7, 2018 Lara faced Jarrett Hurd at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. At stake was the World Boxing Associaiton, International Boxing Federation, and International Boxing Organization world super welterweight titles. Lara suffered a tough 12 round split decision loss as he went down in the 12th round. He also had his eye cut in the 12th round as well.

Ramon Alvarez last stepped into the ring on April 6, 2019 when he faced Jose Carlos Paz at Arena Sonora, Hermosillo. Alvarez scored a 10-round split decision win. It was a nice bounce back following his technical knockout loss to Brandon Rios on November 17, 2018.
