Week 17 of the NFL betting season is upon us with teams continuing to jockey for playoff positioning. All but one slot has been locked up in the AFC while three remain open in the NFC. We’re invested in the following teams to win Super Bowl LVII: Buffalo Bills +650, Baltimore Ravens +2200, New York Giants +18500, Philadelphia Eagles +686, Minnesota Vikings +2258, Pittsburgh Steelers +25000, San Francisco 49ers +1200, Seattle Seahawks +5300, Washington Commanders +17500, Cincinnati Bengals +1050, Los Angeles Chargers +3750, and Jacksonville Jaguars +15500. Of those teams, only the Steelers find themselves on the outside looking into the playoff picture with two games remaining on the docket. If you can believe it, there is a path for Mike Tomlin’s squad to qualify. Teams that haven’t locked up a playoff bid include the GMEN, Commandos, Jaguars, and Seahawks. Oh the fun we’ll have hedging if all 12 of these teams find a place at the table come the second season! Are we missing out on a team or two that can come out of nowhere to hoist the Lombardi? I don’t see it, but I wanted to dig into what the betting market is telling us for you to come to your own conclusions and act on them if need be. At this point, the Dallas Cowboys would be the No. 5 seed in the NFC Playoffs. Dallas is 11-4, but the Cowboys have the misfortune of being in the NFC East, so the Cowboys are two games behind the Philadelphia Eagles for the right to host a playoff game. Meanwhile, their opponent on Thursday Night Football, the Tennessee Titans, can potentially win its division at 8-9. Tennessee’s game against Dallas means nothing for its playoff hopes, as the Titans’ Week 18 showdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars is a win-and-in situation for both teams. The Dallas Cowboys will continue their late push to run down the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East race. Dallas needs to win its last two games and have Philadelphia drop its last two games in order to claim the division. That has the Cowboys motivated ahead of their Thursday Night Football showdown with the Tennessee Titans. The Los Angeles Chargers have gritted out two straight wins against other potential AFC playoff teams. That has the Chargers in position to make the postseason, and they have the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Miami Dolphins. They will have the opportunity to help shore up their playoff spot on Monday Night Football this week when they head to the Midwest to take on the Indianapolis Colts. If recent history is any indication, the Monday Night Football clash between the Los Angeles Chargers and Indianapolis Colts will be a close game. Each of the Chargers’ seven games since their bye week has been decided by one score or less, so expect a back-and-forth affair when these teams meet on Monday, December 26, 2022, at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. ... 

The worst division in the NFL this season has been the NFC South. Every team in the division is two games below .500, and that’s the only reason the Tampa Bay Buccaneers might host a playoff game. Tampa Bay is currently 6-8 and one game ahead of the three other teams in the division (Atlanta, Carolina, and New Orleans). The Buccaneers will play division opponents the last two weeks of the regular season, but they will head west to face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday Night Football to close out the NFL’s Christmas tripleheader. My cold spell on the NFL total picks has reached Buffalo Bills home stadium level of frigidity. I can’t remember seeing a game paused for snow ball activity from the stands, but it happened last week during the Bills’ game with Miami. It’s not nice to tease, but if it’s required to bet on NFL games than I’m all for it. And teasing the odds has been profitable for me this season so I’ll continue. Yep, once again I hit a three-team teaser in Week 15 giving me two straight winning tickets and eight in the past 11 weeks. You have to win a higher percentage of teasers since buying points to move the spread or total in your favor has a price. For the second straight week I hit an underdog moneyline winner on my NFL parlay picks. It turns out the rest of the week wasn’t as good. Once again I continue to hit a few games, but as we know every wager on the parlay card has to win in order to cash out. I felt good about the Week 15 picks, however it was the team I least expected that bit me on the backside. Points will be at a premium when the New York Jets host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football. Neither one of these offenses is that great, and the weather will not be cooperative. Currently, forecasts are calling for rain throughout the evening, but at least the temperature is expected to be in the 40s. That could favor the Jaguars, as they do have a quarterback with underrated running ability in Trevor Lawrence. Either the New York Jets or Jacksonville Jaguars will be essentially limited from playoff contention on Thursday Night Football. Jacksonville is 6-8 following an upset win over Dallas, while the Jets fell to 7-7 after a tough home loss to Detroit. Currently, the top nine teams in the AFC have seven wins or more, so neither team can afford a defeat. Following a solid run on my NFL total picks during the middle of the season things have gone downhill recently. I was able to claim at least one win in each of the previous three weeks, but last week was the big goose egg. Yep, I missed them all and I’m certainly not proud of it. You would think betting the over/under would be much easier than it actually is. It’s almost like flipping a coin and in Week 14 the coin flip probably would’ve gotten me better results.... 

Based on overall results I can say betting a NFL teaser card is easier than a parlay and wagering on the total. I say that because once again I had a three-team winner giving me seven payouts over the last 10 weeks. The idea of buying points to manipulate a spread or total in your favor should make things easier, so it’s not a complete surprise I’ve enjoyed so much success on my teasers over the last few months. It comes at a cost, though. The payout is much smaller on a teaser card for obvious ... 

A different approach on my Week 14 NFL parlay picks unfortunately yielded the same results. I’ve consistently won a few games every week but have yet to hit a four-team winner this season, and it sure would be nice to experience that before the campaign comes to a close. I did like the new approach of picking four random games rather than limiting the picks to a pair of dogs and a pair of favorites. And with bye weeks now officially done we have all 16 games from which to pick our winners.... 

The Green Bay Packers are currently 5-8 and 2.5 games out of the playoff picture. They have a long way to go if they are going to make it back to the postseason, and they cannot lose another game if they plan on sneaking into the playoffs. When the New York Giants and Washington Commanders met in the Big Apple two weeks ago, 70 minutes of action was unable to separate the two teams. The Giants and Commanders played to the second tie of the 2022 season, throwing a kink into the NFC playoff picture. New York and Washington would currently be the last two Wild Card teams in the playoffs at 7-5-1 each, ensuring that every NFC East team made it to the postseason. It might be next man up once again for the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football. Quarterbacks Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo have already suffered season-ending injuries, and now Brock Purdy is questionable to play against the Seattle Seahawks with an oblique injury he sustained in last week’s dominant win over Tampa Bay. If Purdy cannot play, journeyman Josh Johnson will get the start under center even though he was just signed off Denver’s practice squad last Tuesday. The San Francisco 49ers can win the NFC West with a victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. San Francisco has won six straight games after a 3-4 start and defeated Seattle back in Week 2. Meanwhile, the Seahawks have lost three of their last four games and could miss out on the postseason after a strong start to the year. I guess that just proves that winning a bet isn’t easy even when you manipulate the line or spread in your favor. Following a major heater that saw me hit six three-team winners in the span of seven weeks, things have cooled off. The New England Patriots are hoping to stay in the playoff hunt, but they are currently one game behind the New York Jets for the final playoff spot in the AFC. Mike McDaniel is one of the favorites to be named NFL Coach of the Year.
