Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier have some unfinished business to settle. These two violent badasses were locked in a wild battle last year before an accidental knee to Poirier’s head ended the fight in a No Contest. What was shaping up to be a Fight of the Year contender ended up being one of the biggest teases of the year.

It’s been something of a challenge trying to get the rematch booked, but both guys have since scored thrilling wins over Justin Gaethje, and Poirier stopped Anthony Pettis for good measure. These are two of the most exciting brawlers in the lightweight division, and their matchup anchors a marquee UFC on FOX 30 card.

In fact, the card’s quality rivals some of the weaker pay-per-views we’ve seen this year. The co-main event features featherweight GOAT Jose Aldo against Jeremy Stephens - a rad pairing of elite strikers. We’ve also got former strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk in a high-stakes matchup with Tecia Torres. It’ll be interesting to see if JJ goes back to dominating the division after two straight losses to Rose Namajunas.

What to Watch For

Ok, so this card is a bit top heavy. But man those top three fights are killer. While Alvarez holds the unofficial title of the UFC’s Most Violent Man, I’d argue that Poirier has just a good a claim. Poirier is good everywhere, with dynamic striking and solid wrestling, along with the athleticism to do everything with panache. Alvarez is as gritty as they come, digging in deep and forcing opponents to do the same. Both guys have Fight of the Years under their belts.

Jose Aldo and Joanna Jedrzejczyk find themselves in similar positions. They’re both former champions that pretty much dominated the weight class until losing two straight to the current champs in their respective divisions. Now, they’re stuck in no man’s land until somebody else seizes the belt.

Aldo’s fight against Stephens is gonna be a ton of fun. Though the Brazilian has been around forever, he’s still one of the fastest, most explosive Muay Thai strikers in the game. Stephens can crack too, and he’s gonna test his hands against a guy universally considered the best 145-pounder ever.

Jedrzejczyk was fast approaching Ronda Rousey-like levels of divisional dominance, but Rose Namajunas put her in her place. While she’s no longer the champ, JJ’s picture-perfect Muay Thai is one of the most aesthetically pleasing offenses in the game. Torres is a Tae Kwon Do black belt who can take the fight anywhere.
