UFC on ESPN 3 takes place on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. The card airs live on ESPN starting 10pm ET.
A compelling rematch is headlining the UFC’s third card on ESPN proper. Top-ranked middleweights Yoel Romero and Ronaldo Souza will runback a 2015 encounter, where Yoel Romero walked away with a contentious split decision.
This could be a stepping stone to a title shot for either fighter. Romero has fought twice for the strap already, but came hair-splittingly close to winning it both times. Remarkably, a title challenge has evaded Jacare - despite his run as a perennial contender for years and several high-profile wins. He’s been one win away a few times though.
This should be a lot of fun: Romero has the most violent offensive bursts in MMA, capable of rendering a man unconscious in a split second. There have been moments where he left his opponents spurting blood from the face like a horror movie (sorry Chris Weidman). Jacare throws hammers of his own, and complements his power boxing with one of the most decorated BJJ resumes in MMA history.
Both guys barely speak English, but their violence speaks for itself. But this is an ESPN proper card, so you know that the UFC is going to load this up. We’ve got contenders, former prospects and recognizable faces all over this shindig.

In their first encounter, Romero used one of his signature blitzes to bash Souza in the first round, only to see Souza recover and arguably win the next two. Now, with 25 minutes, how both men pace themselves will be of utmost importance - cardio has been an issue for both men in the past. The key here is whether Souza can avoid the lightning quick blitzes from one of the most dangerous men in the sport.
Speaking of hulks, Ion Cutelaba named himself “Hulk”, and it takes a lot of juevos to do that. He lives up to it though, as he loves to bash guys into the fetal position. That might not fly against Glover Teixeira, who is one of the more well-rounded guys at 205 - and a strong knockout puncher himself.
Andrei Arlovski is still fighting, much to the detriment of his long term health. When it comes to famous glass chins in MMA, The Pitbull is up there. Still, he remains one of the better technical boxers at heavyweight, capable of hanging in there with bombers like Tai Tuivasa. He’ll have to protect his beard against Augusto Sakai, whose won three straight fights by TKO.
Alex Oliveira is an action fighter, and quietly responsible for some of the most exciting fights we’ve had the past few years. He’ll meet Li Jingliang, a brute that’s earned some wins with very questionable tactics (like blatant eye gouging). There’s going to be a lot of cracks dished out in this one.
