Can Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero just fought each other and nobody else until their careers are done? After Whittaker squeaked by in their first encounter, the Aussie champ and the Cuban destroyer put on a Fight of the Year contender just this past month at UFC 225. Whittaker eked by with a split decision. Honestly, if Romero won or the fight was called a draw, there wouldn’t have been much argument. It was that close, and it was awesome.
Fighters to Watch
We don’t blame Whittaker for not wanting a rubber match with Romero. Fighting that guy three times in a row is nobody’s idea of a good time. The most obvious candidates here are Kelvin Gastelum, who is fresh off a win over Jacare Souza, and Chris Weidman, who was the last guy that Gastelum lost to. With Whittaker quickly becoming one of the UFC’s most exciting fighters, either of those contenders would produce a kickass bout.
