Move on folks, not much to see here. The UFC light heavyweight division is still in its doldrums, with a champion far ahead of the pack and an assortment of generically decent fighters behind him. It’s nice that guys like Ilir Latifi, Jan Blachowicz and Volkan Oezdemir are in the top 5, but also - really? None of these new guys have an ounce of starpower. Thankfully, they’re pretty fun to watch. Can any of them challenge DC in the near future? Nahhhhh...there are levels to this.
Fighters to Watch
Are there any prospects in the wings? There’s one: Dominick Reyes. A former NFL hopeful, “The Devastator” is a huge, 6’4” athletic powerhouse who just laid out Jared Cannonier last month. He’s 9-0 and already scary good. Plus, he’s just 28 years old - a baby in the light heavyweight years.
Tyson Pedro is another guy to watch. He’s coming off his biggest career victory, beating former interim title challenger Ovince St. Preux in Singapore last week. At 8-1 and 26 years old, Pedro’s ceiling is not yet known.
