Light heavyweight contender Anthony Smith (33-15, 18 KOs, 12 SUBs) will meet prospect Aleksandar Rakic (12-2, 9 KOs, 1 SUB) in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Rakic on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Also on the card is unfinished business between light heavyweights Magomed Ankalaev (13-1, 8 KOs) and Ion “The Hulk” Cutelaba (15-5, 12 KOs, 2 SUBs). It’s an excellent night of fighting from top to bottom - let’s take a look at some of the action you’ll be betting on with the UFC odds at BookMaker.eu.

UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Rakic

Date: Saturday, August 29, 2020

Venue: UFC Apex

Location: Las Vegas, Nevada

Anthony Smith is in a weird spot. After losing to Jon Jones in a title match (where he couldn’t get much of anything going), Lionheart bounced back by subbing Alexander Gustafsson - a huge win considering the Swede’s standing at 205. But in his last outing, he was spanked from pillar to post by Glover Teixeira, a guy that most would see as a high level gatekeeper. His next performance against Aleksandar Rakic is going to be a very important one.

Austria’s Rakic is coming off a loss to Volkan Oezdemir, but had amassed a perfect UFC record prior to the December 2019 encounter. Though he’s a dangerous opponent, he’s not a widely recognized name - making this a high-risk, low-reward matchup for Smith. Rakic has the opportunity to use Smith as a stepping stone, and he can punt Smith down the rankings - far, far away from the title picture - with a win here. He’s a huge guy, a power puncher and an aggressive striker. It’s not gonna be an easy night for either guy.

In the co-main event, Robbie Lawler returns to the cage more than a year since we saw him put up zero fight against Colby Covington. For five rounds, Robbie did nothing but practice his head movement against an avalanche of pepper punches - a puzzling development for a guy whose popularity was built on forcing violence. It leads to the question of whether Robbie, at 38, is no longer able to hang with the big boys at welterweight. After all, he’s been at it for nearly 20 years, sharing cards with fighters like Babalu, Fedor and Frank Trigg - an era long past.

Lawler gets a prove-it scrap against Neil Magny - a fighter who has moved up and down the top 15 for years. Magny has been good enough to fight some big names like Maia, Gastelum and RDA, but never really broke through as a true title contender. The Elevation Fight Team rep comes into the matchup on a 4-1 run, and will be the taller, younger and rangier man here. The question is whether he can handle Robbie’s power.

We also need to bring up Cutelaba vs. Ankalaev. The first scrap flew under the radar as neither guy is really known outside the hardcore audience. But then they started mugging each other during the walkout, then got into a shoving match during Bruce Buffer’s introductions, then started slugging it out as soon as the bell rang. It was freaking awesome, except for the fact that the fight was stopped way too early after Cutelaba got his bell rung. If the rematch is anything like the first go-round, it’ll be a damn good scrap.
