Nobody expected the Black Beast to become a heavyweight contender, much less one of the most popular fighters in the weight class. But Lewis is the perfect example of a how a fighter can get hot, win over the fans with charisma, get himself a title shot and get paid. Never underestimate how far an A+ Instagram game and an ability to deliver hilarious post-fight interviews will take you.

Unfortunately, Lewis’ ceiling falls well below the requirements for a legitimate championship contender. Cormier spanked him silly in their title fight, and JDS outclassed him in the encore. Since then, the 35-year old Lewis has won two straight, but he hasn’t exactly recaptured that knockout magic, scoring listless decisions against Blagoy Ivanov and Ilir Latifi. Perhaps a headlining matchup against a grappling expert will bring that out of him.

Aleksei Oleinik 72 professional fights on his resume - an unbelievable number. Just as impressively, 46 of his 59 career wins have come by way of submission. The nickname “The Boa Constrictor” just fits. The Russian is particularly adept at snatching necks: he snatched the first Ezekiel choke in UFC history, then did it again just two fights later. After getting knocked out by Overeem and Walt Harris in back-to-back fights, Oleinik has since bounced back with two straight wins.

This is one of the most extreme versions of the striker vs. grappler matchup we can think of - and that makes this particularly compelling. The UFC odds at BookMaker.eu are heavily favoring Lewis, opening with him as a huge -270 favorite, with Oleinik at +207 on the comeback.

Also on the card is former middleweight champion Chris Weidman. “The All-American” hasn’t done so well lately, losing five of his past six. Even worse, he’s been knocked out in all of those losses. The only caveat here is that he’s literally only faced elite fighters since 2015. That changes when he meets Omari Akhmedov, an Dagestani grinder on a six-fight unbeaten streak.

Akhmedov is flying under the radar, but he could also effectively end Weidman’s time as a relevant fighter. Naturally, anybody from Dagestan on a winning streak is going to turn some heads. The 32-year old doesn’t have a signature win yet, but he is coming off some promising victories against Zak Cummings and Ian Heinisch. Beating Weidman would open a lot of doors for him.

We also like two lightweight undercard fights between Beneil Dariush and Scott Holtzman, and Nasrat Haqparast and Alexander Munoz. Both Darish and Haqparast are underrated lightweights, but they’re tough, tough dudes that demand respect. The guy to watch here is Alex Munoz, a Team Alpha Male fighter who is making his UFC debut as a 6-0 pro.
