The UFC is moving back to network television. Originally slated for ESPN, UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. Kattar is reportedly slated to air on ABC. It’s a good main event to bring to primetime.

Just over a year ago, it seemed that Max Holloway was on the verge of cleaning out the 145-pound class. He was the titleholder in a loaded weight class and owned a 14-fight divisional winning streak that saw him run through the likes of Cub Swanson, Charles Oliveira, Jeremy Stephens, Ricardo Lamas, Jose Aldo and Brian Ortega. The most impressive part was how easily he dominated the best fighters in the weight class. Save for a failed lightweight tilt against Dustin Poirier, nobody at 145 really gave him much trouble.

Then came Alexander Volkanovski. The Hawaiiwan was stumped by the Australian twice - both close decisions. Now he’s in an awkward position: it’s highly unlikely he’d fight Volkanovski a third time, but he’s still clearly the No. 1 contender. “Blessed” has to keep grinding out wins against elite opponents to stay in the title mix. His first non-title fight in more than three years comes against Calvin Kattar.

It’s an awesome headliner. Kattar is one of the division’s sharpest boxers and comes into the matchup with a two-fight winning streak against Jeremy Stephens and Dan Ige. A recent loss to Zabit Magomedsharipov doesn’t help his title case, but a win over Max freaking Holloway would pretty much override anything else. Depending on who wins the matchup between Volkanovski and Ortega, this main event could very well produce the next title challenger.

The UFC odds at BookMaker opened with Holloway as a big -200 favorite, with Kattar at +170 on the comeback. We’d be surprised if there was any significant swings with those lines.

The rest of the card is...just ok. We like the middleweight matchup between Omari Akhmedov and Tom Breese - both guys bring the pressure and have zero fear. Akhmedov is coming off a high profile loss to Chris Weidman which snapped a six-fight winning streak. Had he beaten Weidman, a top 10 opponent would have been the reward. Instead, he gets a high risk, low reward scrap against a strong finisher in Breese.

Any fighter with an undefeated record at least registers as a curiosity, and that applies to Rodolfo Viera. Armed with a sick nickname - “The Black Belt Hunter” - the jiu-jitsu specialist has submitted both of his UFC opponents since signing with the promotion last year. That brings the Brazilian to 7-0 overall, and he’s finished all of his competition. Anthony Hernandez gets the opportunity to squash the hype, but judging by his 1-2 UFC record the 27-year old really just seems like prospect fodder.

After that, it’s kind of tough to get really excited. A bantamweight tilt between Brian Kelleher and Ricky Simon should be fast-paced, and flyweight Tim Elliott is a fan-friendly fighter despite being unable to put together a significant streak. Elliott meets the tough Jordan Espinosa.
