Venue: UFC Apex

Location: Las Vegas, Nevada

Anderson Silva’s place in MMA history is assured: he is a legend and one of the greatest to ever step inside the octagon. But like so many other greats before him, he might be holding onto the fight game too long. After setting the record for the longest title reign in UFC history - one that spanned seven years - Silva has lost all but one of his past eight fights. During that time, he’s snapped his shin in half, had his gall bladder removed, popped hot for PEDs and was knocked out in his last matchup for good measure. How much more can the man take at the ripe old age of 45?

But because this is Silva we’re talking about, people will still tune in to watch him fight - he hasn’t reached BJ Penn levels of sadness just yet. And putting him in fun matchups is definitely the way to go. That’s what we’re getting with a fight against Uriah Hall, who has authored some of the coolest damn KOs in the business. “Primetime” never fulfilled the insane expectation everybody had for him, but he’s been good enough to face the likes of Gastelum, Santos, Mousasi, Whittaker, Brunson and Costa. It doesn’t matter if he’s on a winning or losing streak - he’s got the talent to give anyone problems.

Let’s hope we get to see some old Silva magic. Not the kind where he just showboats and throws away fights, but that lethal standup wizard that made him the most feared fighter in the world for nearly a decade. Would it be too much to hope that he gets a highlight reel knockout and retires? Yes, probably.

You might think Greg Hardy doesn’t deserve a second chance. That he doesn’t belong in the UFC and that he’ll never sniff the top 10. I wouldn’t argue against any of those beliefs. But it’s impossible not to be intrigued by a former NFL All-Pro trying out this UFC thing. As sports fans, we love to ask things like “what if Lebron played football”, or “what if Iverson grew up playing soccer”. This is something like that, though the difference here is that Hardy just started fighting a few years ago. He’s an elite athlete and explosive mountain of a man - can he be molded into a dangerous fighter?

We’ll see if he can take a few steps forward when he meets Maurice Greene, who has some legitimate grappling skills he can throw at the still-green Hardy. Greene is one of those heavyweights that the UFC keeps as card filler - exactly the type of dude that hyped prospects need to beat. Coming off a win over Gian Villante, Greene could kill a lot of buzz with a win over Hardy.
