Let’s take a peek at the odds and the UFC Fight Night: Chiesa vs. Magny Odds at BookMaker.eu. We’ll post detailed betting breakdowns during fight week.

Is Edwards-Chimaev the new Khabib-Ferguson? Not quite yet, but the fight’s been twice in two months, with each side catching Covid-19. It’s an excellent, significant scrap that we’ll just have to wait a little longer for.

Stepping into the main event is a very good welterweight contest featuring Michael Chiesa and Neil Magny. After back-to-back losses at 155 to Kevin Lee and Anthony Pettis, Chiesa made the move up to welterweight and has found early success. So far, he’s won three fights in his new weight class, subbing Carlos Condit and scoring decisions over Diego Sanchez and Rafael Dos Anjos.

All recognizable names, all past their primes. It’s time for Chiesa to prove that he’s a player at welterweight by beating somebody that’s still putting in work. The win over RDA was nice, but the former lightweight champ struggles mightily against grapplers like Chiesa.

Neil Magny should provide a much stiffer test - he’s also won three straight, beating Jingliang Li, Anthony Martin and Robbie Lawler. That’s not exactly a murderer’s row, but nobody’s gonna say that Magny is coasting on scrubs either. Though Magny is ranked lower than Chiesa (No. 9 and No. 8 respectively), beating him carries weight.

The UFC odds at BookMaker.eu opened with Magny as a slight -127 favorite, with Chiesa at -103 on the comeback. If anything, we can see Magny dropping to the -140 range as we get closer to fight night - on paper he is the more well-rounded of the two.

The aforementioned Carlos Condit also returns to action, meeting the ultra-aggressive Matt Brown in a favorite for Fight of the Night. Condit comes from a different era - he once fought GSP for the title - but he’s always been a reliably exciting fighter. Both him and Brown are at the “fun fights” stage of their careers, and Brown should be a willing participant in the violent affair. We’re well aware of their willingness to throw defense out the window, bite down on the mouthpiece and start slugging.

We also should mention a very good bantamweight scrap between Jimmie Rivera and Pedro Munhoz. Rivera was title contender as recently as 2018, until he got blasted by Marlon Moraes in just 30 seconds. The defeat was the start of a 2-3 slide after an amazing 20-fight win streak that included a split decision win over Munhoz in 2015. Munhoz slugged his way into the title conversation with a win over Cody Garbrandt in 2019, but two straight losses to Aljamain Sterling and Frankie Edgar has changed that narrative. Both men are vying to keep their top-10 ranking. Our UFC odds opened with Rivera as a -155 favorite, with Munhoz a slight underdog at +124. Makes sense, as oddsmakers tend to favor the stronger wrestler.
