UFC Fight Night 149: Overeem vs. Oleinik Betting

Alistair Overeem doesn’t do boring fights. The former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1 champion has reached a point in his career where he needs to kill or be killed. Blessed with a nuclear kickboxing arsenal and cursed with a cracked chin, The Reem is excellent at both. What’s more, he’s still one of the more famous heavyweights on the roster, and ranked No. 6 in the UFC.
Beating him is still a huge accomplishment and an important step to earning a title shot. Which is why he’ll be headlining a UFC card in Russia in late April, meeting Aleksei Oleinik in St. Petersburg. Oleinik steps in for Alexander Volkov, who pulled out just a few weeks ahead of fight night due to undisclosed reasons.
It’s a huge opportunity for Oleinik, who could earn the biggest win of his career. Coming in on two straight wins - over Mark Hunt and Junior Albini - Oleinik has become one of the more surprising ranked fighters at heavyweight. With nearly 70 pro fights and 45 submission wins, Oleinik is a guy that’s seen it all, and has quietly compiled a 6-2 record inside the octagon.
As is the case with most overseas cards, the UFC is loading up the night with local talent. The good news is that there is a lot of great talent from the area to chose from.

Any time The Reem is in a fight, the safe pick is that the fight doesn’t go to decision. He’s just too dangerous and simultaneously vulnerable for it to go any other way. Volkov is a striker himself, and while not a one-hitter quitter, he’s excellent and piling up damage with his high-output boxing. Sticking with the heavyweights, Marcin Tybura meets Shamil Abdurakhimov in a Poland vs. Russia matchup. Both men have had the pleasure of getting knocked out by Derrick Lewis. While this contest won’t have much impact in the way of the heavyweight title picture, this happens to be a division where a few wins can help you rise quickly in the rankings. Abdurakhimov has actually won four of his past five and could find himself in a big fight with a win.
Sergey Pavlovich entered the UFC as 11-0 prospect with heavy, heavy hands. But his debut came against Overeem, and his lack of experience showed against one of the most well-traveled vets in the division. He gets a far easier matchup against Brazil’s Marcelo Golm, a 26-year old who is just eight fights into his career. Golm could be fighting for his job, as he’s lost his past two.
Antonina Shevchenko is best known as the sister of flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, but she’s coming off an impressive UFC debut this past November. 7-0 in MMA, she could become a person of interest should she beat Roxanne Modafferi, who has 37 fights in her career.
