UFC Fight Night 145: Blachowicz vs. Santos Betting

MMA Betting

UFC Fight Night 145 takes place on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic. The card airs live on ESPN+ starting 2pm EST.

For the first time ever, the UFC will stage an event in the Czech Republic, and it’s counting on a native of nearby Poland to help lead the way. Jan Blachowicz, former KSW light heavyweight champion and rising contender, will headline the event opposite Brazil’s Thiago Santos.

Blachowicz and Santos are ranked No. 4 and No. 6, respectively. Their high status at 205 pounds makes this a contender fight, though it seems like it’ll take few more high profile victories before Dana White considers either a worthy opponent of the current champ (and arguably the GOAT) Jon “Bones” Jones.

Still, any fight with Santos is worth watching. The massive 34-year old is one of the most feared knockout artists in the division, and is coming off three straight wins. Blachowicz is one of the top technical kickboxers at 205 pounds, setting up an awesome match up skill vs. power. The winner would likely find themselves in a title eliminator bout.

The name Petyr Yan might not strike a chord just yet, but there are a lot of fans who think that he’s a future champion. He’s not getting an easy matchup here, as he meets former title challenger John Dodson - a speedy knockout artist. If Yan comes out of this with a strong win, set the hype train to ludicrous speed.

Also on the card is Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve, the 6’11” giant who has been a mainstay in the heavyweight division for years. Despite his tenure, Struve could be fighting for a job as he looks to avoid his fourth straight loss when he meets Marcos Rogerio de Lima. The Brazilian is a finisher with 11 KOs and 3 SUBs in 16 career victories. This matchup doesn’t have much significance in the light heavyweight division, but it should be a lot of fun to watch.

UFC Fight Night 145 Betting Lines, Predictions and Picks

The main event is a go, and it’s a good one. Santos is a dude with a giant hammer tattoo on his chest and fights like a dude with a giant hammer tattoo on his chest. He’s known for his fight-ending kicks, and doesn’t hesitate to walk down guys and put the hurt on them.

Blachowicz is a quick, athletic kickboxer that could serve as the perfect striking foil. He’ll need to stick and move against the incoming thunder, and watching him navigate such perilous exchanges should provide plenty of tense moments throughout the fight. Lovers of the striking game should really appreciate the matchup here.

Petyr Yan’s resume includes blasting through Teruto Ishihara in one round, becoming the first man to knock out the Japanese vet. Then he won three straight UFC fights, including a Fight of the Night with Jin Soo Son. Most recently, he forced a corner stoppage of Douglas Silva de Andrade - another dude that’s never been stopped. He’s got our curiosity. But blasting through Dodson? That gets our attention.

Hey, another Dagestani prospect! Joining guys like Zabit Magomedsharipov and Khabib Nurmagomedov, the 26-year old Magomed Ankalaev could be a very big deal in a shallow division. Sure, he was on the wrong end of 2018’s Upset of the Year when he tapped to Paul Craig with just five seconds left (in a fight he was dominating), but all the tools to be a killer are there: the man is a killer wrestler and a brutal puncher.

Hoping to steal Ankalaev’s hype is Darko Stosic, a 26-year old Serbian on a nine-fight winning streak. Stosic has 8 KOs in 13 career wins (just 1 loss), and is coming off a successful UFC debut where he knocked out Jeremy Kimball in the first round. He’s taking a huge step up in competition, so expect him to be a huge underdog in the UFC odds at BookMaker.eu.
