Santiago Ponzinibbio is heading home to headline the UFC’s first fight card in Argentina. The hard-hitting 26-year old brings a six fight win streak with him, most recently coming off a dominating performance over Mike Perry at UFC on FOX 26 this past December.
Despite calling for Rafael dos Anjos, Ponzinibbio meets No. 8 welterweight Neil Magny. Originally scheduled to meet Alex Oliveira at UFC Fight Night 137, Magny was pulled from the card and put into this main event. It’s definitely a bigger fight for the American, who at one point was creeping into the title mix.
Also on the card is Khalil Rountree, a knockout bomber who just knocked out famed kickboxer Gokhan Saki at UFC 226. The 28-year old is 7-2 with 5 KOs, and will look to add Johnnie Walker to his list of victims. Walker is making his UFC debut after beating Henrique da Silva on DWTNCS, and enters the promotion with a 14-3 record that includes 11 KOs.
Jared Cannonier is a solid light heavyweight whose had a tough run recently. 1-3 in his past four fights, “The Killa Gorilla” came up short against Glover Teixeira, Jan Blachowicz and Dominick Reyes - a former title challenger, a top 5 205-pounder and the division’s brightest prospect. Luckily for Cannonier, the competition eases up against Alessio De Chirico, an Italian with a 3-2 UFC record.

Ponzinibbio has established himself as a technical power hitter, and those types of fighters are always fun to watch. But if he wants to become a contender, he’s got to be able to beat well-rounded types like Magny. The American doesn’t have many weaknesses inside the octagon, using his reach to snipe at range or his wrestling to grind down opponents.
