The bantamweight division is a bit top-heavy right now, but man there are a lot of sweet matchups to be made within the top five. TJ Dillashaw will defend his title in an immediate rematch against Cody Garbrandt at UFC 227 on August 4, but there’s still Dominick Cruz, Raphael Assuncao and now Marlon Moraes to worry about. Here’s another wrinkle: flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is also fighting on the same card. Don’t be surprised if the UFC books a champ vs. champ superfight when the night’s done.
UFC Odds and Ends
The UFC odds at BookMaker.eu project a close championship fight, with Dillashaw a slight -135 favorite and Garbrandt barely a ‘dog at +115. Though the first go-round ended early, with Garbrandt getting slept, don’t forget that he also floored TJ in the first round. This is still pretty much a coin flip fight, with both guys having the power and skill to put each other away.
Keep an eye on Marlon Moraes too. After notching a Knockout of the Year contender against Aljamain Sterling, he needed less than a minute to torch Jimmie Rivera and hand him his first loss in 20 fights. The former WSOF champion is a monster who needs to be closely monitored by his fellow contenders.
