Covington is 16-3 in his career, including 3-2 in his last five fights. He is coming off a unanimous decision loss against Kamaru Usman in November of last year. Covington won by TKO against Tyron Woodley in September of 2020, won by unanimous decision against Robbie Lawler in August of 2019, won by unanimous decision against Rafael dos Anjos in June of 2018, and lost by TKO against Kamaru Usman in December of 2019.
Covington will be facing a challenge in going up against Masvidal who has plenty of experience. Should Covington really be listed as almost a 4-1 UFC betting favorite in this fight? Masvidal is 35-15 in his career, including 3-2 in his last five fights. He is coming off a KO loss against Kamaru Usman in April of last year. Masvidal won by TKO against Nate Diaz in November of 2019, won by KO against Ben Askren in July of 2019, won by KO against Darren Till in March of 2019, and lost by unanimous decision against Kamaru Usman in July of 2020.
Masvidal has a lot of experience but he has not won since November of 2019. There is no denying his talent, but does he still have what it takes to win a big fight? His underdog UFC odds are definitely appealing.
Another big fight has Rafael dos Anjos taking on Rafael Fiziev. Dos Anjos is 30-13 in his career with five wins coming by TKO/KO and 10 by submission, while Fiziev is 11-1 in his career with seven wins coming by TKO/KO and one by submission.
These two were supposed to meet about a month ago but Fiziev had to pull out due to travel issues and the fight was rescheduled for UFC 272.
Another key fight has Edson Barboza facing Bryce Mitchell. Barboza is 22-10 in his career with 13 wins coming by TKO/KO and one by submission, while Mitchell is 14-0 in his career with nine wins coming by submission and five by decision.
Barboza has more experience, but Mitchell is unbeaten in his career. UFC odds have Mitchell as the slight favorite.
