Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier are gonna settle once and for all who the better fighter is. Honestly, that seems more important to them than that metal strap they’ve been passing back and forth. Right now, Miocic is holding onto the belt, but DC is telling everybody in listening distance that he knows he’s the better fighter and that’s all he wants to prove. Which is funny, because that’s exactly what Miocic kept insisting on when he was the one clamoring for a rematch.

Here’s an excerpt from an August 2019 interview, after getting knocked out by DC and losing the belt:

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. That’s the way I look at it. It drives me, it makes me hungrier. I want that belt back. It’s not even about the belt - I know I’m a better fighter.”

And here’s a quote from Cormier in a May 2020 interview with Ariel Helwani:

“I’m a better fighter than Stipe Miocic. I respect him, I think he’s a great guy, I think he’s a great role model, but I’m better than him. I just want to go prove it. I should’ve never lost to him...I lost to Jones, but he was better. Stipe Miocic is not better than me…”

Right now, the series is tied at 1-1, with each man holding a TKO over the other. DC stunned Miocic in the first encounter, walking him down and catching with stinging punches. The rematch was a much more prolonged affair, going four grueling rounds before Miocic ended things after a series of lethal body shots.

A lot is riding on the line, professionally and personally. It’s going to be so much fun watching these two square off again.

The rest of the night is noticeably stacked even without another title fight. A heavyweight tilt between Junior dos Santos and Jairzinho Rozenstruik pits a technical boxer against a one-hitter quitter. The chances of a violent end are extremely high, even by heavyweight standards.

We’re also super hyped to see Sean O’Malley back in action. There are already dudes asking if he’s the next Conor McGregor. The answer is no, but Suga has undeniable starpower in his own right. And he appears to be scary good: the 25-year old is 4-0 inside the octagon, 12-0 as a pro and has two straight knockouts. His last win over Eddie Wineland was particularly brutal, as O’Malley floored a wiley vet with a walkoff punch. Marlon Vera is coming off a loss to Yadong Song, but he won five straight prior to that defeat - he’s a legit test for O’Malley.

Last but not least, we have to mention the rematch between Ion Cutelaba and Magomed Ankalaev. These guys got in a shoving match during the in-cage announcements, which is just freaking crazy. Then they started brawling for a few minutes, which was just awesome, before an early stoppage left everybody unsatisfied. If they pick up where they left off, this could be one of the best fights of the year.
