Bellator MMA Betting Lines
Bellator MMA began in 2008 as an additional mixed martial arts competition with the goal of competing against the UFC. Bellator in Latin means warrior. Bellator employs the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts, with one minor alteration for the first two rounds of the tournament, where elbows to the head are not allowed. Unlike most promotions which use a polygonal cage, Bellator Fighting Championships use a circular cage. Bellator is the second largest MMA organization in the world behind the UFC. The first Bellator event was held in 2009.
Bellator began with a tournament format, but when Scott Coker took over as president they decided to go with a more traditional format with multiple fights on a card. Bellator was acquired by Viacom in 2011 and Bellator began airing their events on Spike TV in 2013 and they produced about 25 live events until 2015. The strategy then changed and Bellator went with fewer events, focusing more on top events on a monthly basis. Spike TV changed their name in 2017 and it is now known as Paramount Network.
Most of Bellator’s events are shown on Paramount Network with the preliminary fights on ParamountNetwork.com. There are, however, some marquee Bellator events that have the main card as pay-per-view.
