NFL Week 3 Line Moves

A week ago I said that I simply couldn’t understand why oddsmakers opened up the Patriots as just a 14.5-point favorite against the Dolphins when I thought the line should have opened 18. The same thing happened again this week, as oddsmakers are simply not paying attention, and they opened up Dallas just a 17-point favorite against the Dolphins. The line has shot up to 21 and I don’t think it is going to stop there. I thought the line should have opened at 23 or perhaps even 24. This Miami team has been a disgrace through the first two weeks of the season and there is no reason to think they are going to get any better. We rarely see line moves of four points in the NFL unless there is an injury, but this year’s Miami team is awful.

There are three games that have moved a point and a half. The Chiefs opened as a 5-point home favorite and they are now laying 6.5. The Kansas City offense has looked unstoppable so far this season and even though Baltimore has a good defense, they are unlikely to slow down Kansas City.

The Bills have gone from a 4-point favorite at home against the Bengals to a 5.5-point favorite, while the Buccaneers have gone from a 5-point home favorite against the Giants to a 6.5-point favorite.

Three games have moved a point, as the Packers have gone from a 7-point favorite at home against the Broncos to an 8-point favorite; the Vikings have gone from a 7-point home favorite to an 8-point choice against the Raiders, while the Cardinals are now a 2.5- point home dog against the Panthers, down from a 3.5-point dog.

NFL Week 3 Totals Moves

The top total move of the week is on the game between the Ravens and Chiefs. The line opened a 51.5 and is now 55. Another big total move is the one between the Panthers and Cardinals, as the total opened 43.5 and is now up to 46.5. The total on the Bengals and Bills has also moved three points from 40.5 to 43.5.

Three other totals that had line movement of note are on the Lions and Eagles, Raiders at Vikings and the Titans at the Jaguars. The total on the Lions and Eagles has gone from 49.5 to 48, the Raiders and Vikings total went from 43 to 42 and the number on the Titans and Jaguars went from 41 to 40.
