With every team having played eight games, we are officially into the second half of the season. And we are starting to see some separation for playoff positioning. The MVP season Patrick Mahomes is putting together has the Chiefs thinking of the big game for the first time since the 1970 merger. The offense is definitely championship-caliber scoring over 36 points per game to lead the NFL. The question surrounding the Chiefs is can their defense holdup. The group has shown signs of improving and they don’t need to do much with their dynamic offense.
As long as Tom Brady is running the show in New England, the Pats will consistently be at the top of this list. The Pats are the only team to beat Kansas City this season giving them a tie-breaker in the head-to-head series should it be needed in January. Are the Texans a viable candidate? They’ve vaulted up the list on the strength of a six-game winning streak to improve their odds to +1850. Deshaun Watson is playing at a high level and the defense has a bunch of playmakers, this might be the year, though the competition is strong as both the Steelers and Chargers are playing well.
