NFL Betting – Week 3 Picks

NFL Betting – Week 3 Picks

The NFL does everything it can to protect its players, especially quarterbacks, from serious injury. However, the violent nature of the game means those injuries are going to occur. And when guys like Ben Roethlisberger and Drew Brees go down, their absence seriously impacts the futures and betting line. With Big Ben done for the year, the Steelers are now without their three Bs, a trio that included Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown that ransacked opponents for years. Off to a winless start the Steelers are a 6.5-point road dog for their Week 3 tilt with the Niners.

It’s also hard to imagine the Saints without Brees, who’s missed just three games since joining the club in 2006. He departed after two series and no points, and the Saints were held without an offensive touchdown for the first time since 2016. You can expect the totals in New Orleans games to be significantly lower now that Teddy Bridgewater and/or Taysom Hill are taking snaps. It’s been a rough year for quarterbacks with Andrew Luck retiring, Nick Foles injured in Week 1, Sam Darnold going down with mono and his backup Trevor Siemian done for the year. We also have a change in New York with Eli Manning benched in place of Daniel Jones. Despite all the activity, Colin Kaepernick’s phone isn’t ringing.

After starting the year going 2-1-1, I enjoyed another stellar Sunday on my NFL picks with a 3-1 mark in Week 2. Indianapolis came through for me with an outright win over Tennessee. My pick of the under in the Chiefs/Raiders game cashed, and though reluctant at the outset, I eventually stood by New England minus 18-points against the sorry Dolphins. The G-Men cost me a perfect week with their stinker against the Bills.

We stay in the South, only this time in the AFC for another division tilt to get the Week 3 betting started. One of six winless teams in the AFC, the Jacksonville Jaguars host Tennessee on Thursday, September 19. The schedule concludes with a Monday Night Football matchup between the Bears and Redskins. BookMaker.eu will have spreads and point totals for every game on the 2019 NFL schedule.

NFL Week 3 Picks

Miami Dolphins at Dallas Cowboys ( -23, 47 )

Is it worth kicking a dead dog? In the case of the Dolphins, yes. We missed a chance to get the Boys at -17 when the line hit the board. Enough people did grab them, however, and the line exploded to -23. The Fins are making no excuses and the purge continued when they dealt Minkah Fitzpatrick this week. Miami has no offense and now one of its best defenders is playing elsewhere. The line is huge, but the Dolphins are bad. I’ll buy Dallas minus the points.

Pittsburgh Steelers at San Francisco 49ers ( -6.5, 44 ), 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS)

The Niners started the season with a pair of wins and they play their home opener breathing a sigh of relief not having to face Roethlisberger. That’s exactly what’s going to doom them in this encounter. The Steelers will likely be more conservative in their offensive approach, but Mason Rudolph is a talent. And the Niners aren’t facing the Bucs or Bengals defense. I’m not convinced the Niners are ready to make a run so I’m backing Pittsburgh with the points.

New York Giants at Tampa Bay Buccaneers ( -6.5, 48 ), 4:05 p.m. ET (FOX)

Turning to Daniel Jones might signify the end of the Eli Manning era in the Meadowlands. We haven’t seen much from Jameis Winston this season and we don’t know what to expect from Jones and the Giants. Sure he looked good in the preseason, but that was the preseason. Things are different once the bright lights are shining. I’m leaning toward the under in this one because it seems a bit high, and Jones has yet to do anything in the NFL.
