Patriots at Cardinals MNF Week 14 Betting

Bill Belichick is hoping to set another record this season. Belichick has been to the playoffs 19 times, and he is tied with Don Shula as the NFL head coach with the most playoff appearances. He can be the first coach to lead his team to 20 separate postseasons if the New England Patriots can get back to the playoffs in 2022. They are currently one game out of the playoff picture at the moment, and they need a win over the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football to stay in the chase.

The New England Patriots are hoping to stay in the playoff hunt, but they are currently one game behind the New York Jets for the final playoff spot in the AFC. They have lost two straight primetime games, and they will look to break that streak when they face the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football. These teams will meet at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Monday, December 12, 2022, at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.

NFL Week 14 Betting Odds

New England Patriots -2

Arizona Cardinals +2

Total 44.5

Money Line: Patriots -135, Cardinals +115

Odds Analysis

It was a little surprising to see the New England Patriots listed as a road favorite here as the Arizona Cardinals are coming off a bye week. However, the action has been on the Pats, moving the line from New England -1 to New England -2. The total has moved from 44 to 44.5 points too.

New England Patriots

Mac Jones is still the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots, and Bill Belichick made it sound like he will ride with him the rest of the way. Jones has had an up-and-down second season in the pros, and he is completing 68.1% of his passes for 1,963 yards (7.3 YPA) with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions on the year. New England spent a lot of money on its receiving corps, but this is not a good passing attack. Jakobi Meyers has 50 receptions for 593 yards and three touchdowns, while DeVante Parker is averaging 19.0 YPR, but no other receiver has more than 350 yards. To make matters worse, Meyers is questionable to play with an injury.

New England has been able to rely on second year running back Rhamondre Stevenson. He leads the team with 734 rushing yards (4.6 YPC) and four touchdowns, and he has played a big role in the passing game with 56 receptions for 383 yards and a TD.

This defense doesn’t have any big names, but it ranks seventh in scoring defense (18.8 PPG) and seventh in total defense (311.8 YPG). New England has a potential All-Pro linebacker in Matthew Judon who has 13 sacks on the season, and Josh Uche and Deatrich Wise Jr. have combined for 13.5 sacks. The Pats rank in the top four in sack rate and interception rate as Belichick has done an excellent job on this side of the ball once more.

Arizona Cardinals

Big changes are coming in the desert this offseason. Kliff Kingsbury is very likely to be fired at the end of the season as the Cardinals have not turned the corner under his watch, and he is starting to clash with franchise quarterback Kyler Murray. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft has seemingly regressed, and the Cardinals are averaging fewer yards per dropback than any other team in the NFL.

Murray is completing 66.3% of his passes for 2,359 yards (6.1 YPA) with 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has been sacked 25 times on the season, but he is averaging 6.3 YPC and is the only efficient runner on the roster. James Conner is only able to muster 3.9 YPC, and Keaontay Ingram has been even less successful to this point.

DeAndre Hopkins missed six games due to suspension, but he is already the top receiver on Arizona with 49 receptions for 574 yards and three touchdowns. Marquise Brown recently returned from injury, and he has been nearly as productive as Hopkins, giving this offense two elite receivers.

Arizona ranks 31st in scoring defense (26.8 PPG) and 21st in total defense (356.2 YPG). The Cardinals haven’t had much success creating turnovers or getting to the quarterback, so Jones has the potential to move the chains against this defense.

Patriots at Cardinals Free Pick

The Under is probably a good bet given New England’s defense and Mac Jones’ inability to move the ball on offense. As for a side, New England has less turmoil, and the Pats will be prepared to shut down Murray.
