The maize and blue squeaked by Army in overtime in its last contest. Meanwhile, the Badgers have been a big surprise with a pair of victories by a combined score of 110-0 and current college football odds have them as a 3.5-point favorite... 

With conference play getting into full swing this week there are a number of crucial games on the Week 4 college football schedule. As always, the Power 5 league’s dominated the headlines and a mega battle takes place in Wisconsin between two ranked teams. The Pac-12 has regained some of its swagger with six teams ranked in the latest AP top-25 poll, the most in almost four years. However, that doesn’t mean the league is chasing down the SEC for supremacy.... 

Hey Maryland and USC, thanks for playing. After entering the top-25 last week those two fell out of the rankings with lackluster losses, opening the door for a few other schools to crack into the poll. The bottom of the top-25 will probably change every week with teams waiting on the doorstep while others falter. A pair of Pac-12 teams snuck into the rankings this week with Cal at No. 23 and Arizona State at No. 24. TCU also cracked the top-25 entering as the final team in the rankings.... 

Things are heating up for Chip Kelly in more ways than one. Not only are his UCLA Bruins facing the red-hot Oklahoma Sooners as a 23.5-point underdog on the current college football odds in Week 3, his lack of wins since taking over the program have put Kelly on an uncomfortably warm seat. It’s nothing a major upset can’t fix, but the Bruins haven’t won a game outright when getting 20 or more points on the closing line since at least 2002. We’ll keep a close eye on a couple of new teams as we enter Week 3 of the 2019 college football season after the top-25 had a mild shakeup at the bottom. Impressive wins by Maryland and USC over ranked foes vaulted them into the rankings, knocking their opponents out of the top-25. The Terps hammered Syracuse, 63-20, to essentially switch places with the Orange at No. 21. Meanwhile, playing with backup turned starter Kedon Slovis after the loss of JT Daniels, the Trojans got all over Stanford to enter the poll at No. 24. In the storied history of USC football, Slovis’ 377 passing yards set a program record for a freshman. ... 

The SEC is living up to its billing as the best conference in college football. Three of the top four teams in the recent national rankings reside in the SEC, but we are not going to see all three in the College Football Playoff at the end of the season.... 

It has only been one week, but the Heisman Trophy odds have already moved with Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts surging into immediate contention. Hurts had six touchdowns, three passing and three rushing, in a 49-31 win over Houston last week. He threw for 332 yards and was extremely impressive in Oklahoma’s season-opening win over Houston. Hurts is right behind Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence in the latest Heisman Trophy odds. ... 

After several years of mediocrity, the once proud Texas Longhorns are poised to make a return to prominence in the college football landscape. Their top-10 showdown with the LSU Tigers on Saturday, September 7, will go a long way toward validating their ascent. Both teams had little trouble in their opener with the Horns getting primed for their Louisiana swing by hammering Tech. They will face a much stiffer State while getting 5.5-points at offshore sportsbooks. The game will air live in prime... 

With the first full weekend of the 2019 college football season in the books we have a better understanding of most teams. However, the action in Week 2 will bring further clarity to what’s in store the rest of the way. We followed a few wise guy plays last week and the results were as expected. Not only do you have to be good to go undefeated, you also have to catch a few breaks along the way. The Clemson Tigers were national championship good last year with a perfect record, but it could have been much different had the Texas AM Aggies converted a late 2-point conversion when the teams met in College Station. The Aggies feel they are a better squad this year and they have a chance to prove it when they visit Memorial Stadium for a Week 2 showdown with the No. 1 ranked team in the land. We don’t really get to know teams until they’ve played a few games. That makes Week 2 of the 2019 college football schedule an important one. And after a first full week of games that spanned five days, we’re back to a more traditional schedule with a bulk of the action taking place on Saturday. As always, it’s the big boys that attract most of the attention with heavyweight battles taking place in Texas and Clemson.... 

A busy Week 1 in college football with ranked teams playing on Sunday and Monday pushed the first top-25 poll back. There won’t be much change from the preseason rankings as all teams situated in the top-25 won except for Oregon, which lost a heartbreaker to Auburn in the weekend’s only contest between ranked teams. The Ducks trailed just once in that game and that was when Auburn scored the game-winning touchdown with nine seconds left in the fourth quarter.... 

On a national level this is the marquee matchup of opening weekend with a pair of ranked teams going head-to-head at a neutral site. The return of Justin Herbert has the Oregon Ducks thinking CFP this year while the Auburn Tigers are likely playing for Gus Malzahn’s job. OU is the higher ranked team in the preseason AP Poll at No. 11, but the Ducks are getting a field on the college football betting lines at offshore sportsbooks. The first full weekend of college football action will bring out a bunch of squares looking to make a fast buck. The only problem is the squares are what keep online sportsbooks in business. The Sun Belt Conference has been dominated by Appalachian State ever since the Mountaineers became a member of it dating back to 2014. In the five years since, the program has gone on to capture conference title bragging rights each of the last three seasons and is once again the decided favorite of linemakers at online sportsbooks to pull off the feat in 2019. The Pac-12 has taken a ton of heat as being the worst of the Power 5 conferences in recent years. Going by the most recent results, it’s hard to argue with that assumption. Only two teams tallied double-digit win totals a season ago with both schools coming out of the state of Washington. The Huskies went on to win 10 games and fell in the Rose Bowl to Ohio State, while the Cougars won 11 after squeaking past Iowa State in the Alamo Bowl. U-Dub ( +250 ) is once again one of the listed favorites per the current college football betting lines to win the conference this upcoming season, while the Mad Scientist’s Cougars ( +1600 ) would need Anthony Gordon to pick up where Gardner Minshew left off to once again be in the mix. However, Chris Petersen’s troops are expected to be challenged by Mario Cristobal’s Oregon Ducks ( +350 ) who have Heisman hopeful Justin Herbert under center for his senior campaign. Though five teams currently rank out amongst the Top 25 in the land, none of them look worthy of becoming only the third Pac-12 entrant in the history of the College Football Playoff. Last weekend was just a tease with No. 8 Florida squeaking by Miami in less than spectacular fashion. Thursday night kicks off the full Week 1 college football schedule with the 24 other teams ranked among the top 25 in action. Clemson begins its quest for a second straight national championship when the top-ranked Tigers host Georgia Tech on Thursday in an early-season ACC tilt.
