Texas A&M Aggies Season Win Totals

Jimbo Fisher has turned Texas A&M into a consistent power in the SEC West. The Aggies pried Fisher away from Florida State with a massive 10-year, $75 million deal in late 2017. It took him a couple seasons to significantly improve on what we saw from Kevin Sumlin, but the Aggies finished the year as the No. 4 ranked team in the country in 2020. The Aggies lone loss came against Alabama in Tuscaloosa in early October, but they won their last seven regular season games and then beat North Carolina in the Orange Bowl to finish 9-1.

Texas A&M has a very manageable schedule in 2021, so the Aggies can win at least 10 games in a season for the first time in the Fisher era. However, this team must replace Kellen Mond and four starters along the offensive line.

Texas A&M Aggies Preview

The Aggies have one of the toughest quarterback competitions in the country. Redshirt freshman Haynes King and redshirt sophomore Zach Calzada have been duking it out throughout the spring and summer. Neither has seen much action with Calzada throwing 24 passes in 2019 and King throwing four passes last season, but King has seen as the slight favorite to win the job.

Whoever wins the job will have the best tight end in the country to throw to in the passing game. Jalen Wydermyer was the best tight end in the country not named Kyle Pitts last season.

Wydermyer was Second Team All-SEC in 2019 and 2020, and he is an exceptional red zone target. In two seasons, he has 78 receptions for 953 yards and 12 touchdowns, and he could have a big year in 2021.

There is plenty of talent elsewhere at the skill positions. Isaiah Spiller is an excellent running back, and he ran for 1,036 yards and nine touchdowns last season while averaging 5.5 YPC. Chase Lane thrived as a freshman with 29 receptions for 409 yards and two touchdowns, and Ainias Smith was moved to slot receiver full-time after being a running back in most packages in 2020.

This offensive line is a major question mark. Left tackle Kenyon Green is the only returning starter from 2020, and they are slated to start three underclassmen. The return of center Luke Matthews will help a lot, but there are a lot of potential issues up front.

Texas A&M has far less worries on defense. The Aggies return nine starters on this side of the ball, losing only Buddy Johnson and Bobby Brown III to the NFL. DeMarvin Leal was a First Team All-SEC selection in 2020, and the rest of the defensive line has a nice blend of talent and experience.

Aaron Hansford is the leading returning tackler, but there is a question over who will take over the other linebacker spot. Andre White Jr. is the most likely starter, yet he could be supplanted by one of the younger players.

This secondary has a highly regarded cornerback in Jaylon Jones, and Myles Jones has a wealth of experience at the other corner slot. Safety Leon O’Neal Jr. is someone to watch too as he should be an all-conference selection.

Texas A&M Aggies Win Total Prediction

This is the most manageable schedule in the SEC West. Texas A&M only has to play three road games all year, and the Aggies won’t play their second true road game until mid-November when they head to Oxford.

Although there are concerns about the offense, they should be 5-0 headed into their home game with Alabama on October 9. They have been repeatedly blasted on the road against Alabama, but they have been far more competitive at home. An upset win would likely lead to a top-three ranking heading into November.

The last month of the season is the most challenging. Texas A&M must face Auburn, Ole Miss, and LSU, but the Aggies stand a good chance of winning two of those three games to get to 10 wins.
