Fight Preview

Regis Prograis did a great job of giving an overview of this fight against Josh Taylor. In a championship matchup that is considered a “Dream Fight” this event is considered one that can pull boxing back out of the ditch. A horrible litany of controversies has hit the sport hard with the latest being the death of Patrick Day after he was put into a coma in his bout with Charles Conwell.

“It’s very important,” said Prograis. “You’ve got two undefeated fighters in their prime, not just undefeated fighters but champions in their prime, ranked number one and number two in the world and they’re fighting each other now. This is a huge fight and I’m glad to be a part of it. It’s history. It’s a dream fight.”
Prograis looked back on the start of his boxing career and how much he put into it.

“I started boxing at a real late age,” he said. “I started when I was like 15, 17 years old. Most of the fighters I’m competing against, they started when they were eight or nine years old. And to get this opportunity now, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Taylor made quite the bold statement when he claimed that Prograis tried to pull out of the fight. He called out Prograis at the opening press conference while the two sat at the same table.

“He was trying to pull out because he didn’t wanna come over here,” Taylor said. “Just all the stuff, all the management stuff, you know, all that carrying on behind the scenes, doesn’t wanna come over here. So, that’s what I believe – he didn’t wanna come over here. But if it was in America, I’d have did that straight away, no questions asked.”

Prograis said the delay in getting the matchup signed was due to contractual issues.

Prograis is ready for a hostile crowd that will be backing Taylor to the hilt.

“I’m pretty sure they’re gonna be booing me and stuff, but to give you the real perspective on things, you’ll have to ask me after the fight how I felt,” he said. “Right now, I feel like I’m not gonna be nervous because I don’t think I’m gonna have no pressure on me. The pressure is gonna be all on Josh Taylor because all his fans from Scotland are coming and he’s gonna have to impress them.”
