Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury Boxing Betting

Undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk puts his titles on the line in a rematch with challenger Tyson Fury in a 12-round bout scheduled for Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The two met in May in what some have called the best heavyweight fight in years. Usyk won the WBC belt from Fury with a split decision but later renounced his IBF belt. If the fight is anything like the first bout we can expect another tight battle. Usyk opened as a -140 favorite while Fury is a negative odds underdog.

Fury lamented the ninth round in the previous fight between the two. After controlling the match for most of the night he was punished by a barrage of punches and eventually took a knockdown after falling into the ropes. The fight went the distance but Fury never recovered from that fateful round losing by a close margin on the scorecards. Fury has held multiple world heavyweight championships from as far back as 2015 and looks to rebound from his first professional loss.

The 12-round heavyweight title fight between champion Oleksandr Usyk ( 22-0, 14 KOs ) and Tyson Fury ( 34-1-1, 24 KOs ) is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The fight will stream on DAZN pay-per-view.

Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury Fight Preview

Fury is much bigger than his opponent and has used that to his advantage throughout his career. However, a six-inch height difference and nearly 30 pounds more on his carcass was little solace in the first meeting. At the deciding point in the ninth round of the previous fight, Fury absorbed, according to witnesses, 14 unanswered blows. Entering the round Fury was ahead on two scorecards and the third was deadlocked.

The relentless fighting style of Usyk finally got the better of the bigger man and scoring a ninth round knockdown was the shot that eventually lifted Usyk to victory. Usyk appeared to change his fighting style in the later rounds taking a more aggressive approach in the eighth round and eventually scoring a knockdown in the ninth. Some observers at ringside felt the punishment was enough to warrant a stoppage. But the count continued as time expired on the round.

Fury was able to fend off attacks in the final three rounds but failed to land enough punches to sway a majority of the judges. When the final bell rang judges awarded a close split decision to Usyk making him the first undisputed heavyweight champion in nearly three decades.

It will be interesting to see how Fury adjusts and responds to his first professional loss. He was undefeated in his previous 35 fights oftentimes using his enormous size advantage to overpower opponents. When he returned from a three and a half year hiatus he battled massive weight gain getting over 400 pounds at one point. He trimmed down in time for a bout with then-WBC heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder in a split draw. A little over a year later the two met again with Fury scoring a decisive seventh-round TKO to claim the WBC and the vacant The Ring heavyweight straps. He held the WBC belt until losing to Usyk in May.

Usyk wants to prove his victory in May was no fluke, and you know Fury will be out to avenge the loss. It would be poetic justice for Fury to win the fight and hand Usyk his first pro loss after the same was done to him in the first bout.

Bet Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury

The odds reflect most expect another close fight. Fury controlled the early action in the first bout and bounced back from being knocked down in the ninth. He has a remarkable ability to recover from big blows since he’s been knocked down eight times in his career. He even won the 12th round back in May according to the judges. Admittedly Fury lost focus in the first fight displaying the showmanship he’s known for. That’s okay to do when plastering your opponent, but in a close fight it may have cost him. I expect Fury to make adjustments and not commit the same mistakes.
