Jermall Charlo (29-0, 21 knockouts)

In his last five fights, Charlo has five wins and no losses. He defeated Brandon Adams by unanimous decision in June, won a unanimous decision against Matt Korobov in December of last year, knocked out Hugo Centeno Jr. in the 2nd round last April, won by TKO in the fourth round against Jorge Sebastian Heiland in July of 2017 and knocked out Julian Williams in the 5th round in December of 2016.

Charlo said that he is inspired to win this fight for his newborn daughter. “It’s really all about family these days,” said Charlo to the media, “I’m fighting even harder for my family now. I feel like I’m on cloud nine and on top of the world right now. We’ve been ready for the arrival of my daughter and I’m so happy she’s here in time to see her father fight on December 7.”

Charlo said he is not going to just let this fight develop, but that he is going to knock out Hogan. “You hear fighters say that they’re not going for the knockout, but I am,” said Charlo to the media, “If I hit Hogan with something flush, he’s going to sleep. I’m in shape. I’m strong. I’m going for the knockout if it’s there. If he thinks he can bully me, then I’ll show him he made a big mistake. I know everything about Hogan. I know he’s been in Florida thinking that he’s getting ready for me. He has no idea.”

Dennis Hogan (28-2-1, 7 knockouts)

In his last five fights, Hogan has four wins and one loss. He was beaten in a disputed majority decision last time out, as he lost to Jaime Munguia in April. He won a unanimous decision against Jamie Welch in December of last year, won a unanimous decision against Jimmy Kilrain Kelly in April of last year, won a unanimous decision against Yuki Nonaka in October of 2017 and won a decision against Yao Yi Ma in November of 2016.

Hogan said that before the fight against Munguia that people doubted him, but now people are giving him a real chance to win a title. “Before the Munguia fight, people were sending me messages saying, ‘best of luck, give it everything.’ Now I’m getting messages saying ‘you can do this’ from a large amount of people.” Hogan said to the media, “It does feel like a bit of motivation, but I just stay true to what I feel, and what I believe. I know that when I put my mind to it, I can achieve anything. This is the next goal for me… being world champion.”

Hogan said to the media that he has no problem being in New York for this fight. "As an Irishman, I feel right at home in New York and have no issue traveling abroad once again to achieve my dream. I have successfully competed at light heavyweight and middleweight as a professional and I will feel stronger with the extra six pounds on December 7.”

Boxing Picks

The odds heavily favor Charlo in this fight and there is no reason to think Hogan has a chance. Hogan did fight pretty well against Munguia, but I don’t know that you can say Hogan is now suddenly a serious title contender. Hogan also has very limited power and he isn’t likely to win a decision against Charlo. The price is too high for me, so I’ll look for props on Charlo to win by knockout and also take the rounds to go under the total.

Boxing Pick: Charlo to win by 5th round knockout
