Boxing Odds – Jarrett Hurd vs. Julian Williams Betting Preview

Jarrett Hurd vs. Julian Williams Betting

In the super welterweight division, it would be hard to find a better or more appealing matchup than defending champion Jarrett Hurd and aspiring challenger Julian Williams. Hurd and Williams will meet up on May 11, 2019 for the International Boxing Federation, International Boxing Organization, and World Boxing Association Super World Super Welterweight titles. Hurd currently holds the IBO, WBA, and IBF World Super World Welterweight titles. Williams has been on a quest to atone for the one previous world championship shot that he had back on December 10, 2016 in which he was humiliated in a fifth-round knockout at the hands of Jermall Charlo. After making empty boasts prior to that fight Williams was proven to not be ready for prime time. Thus, this is the biggest fight of his career. And it promises to be incredibly difficult.

Fight Preview

Jarrett Hurd is ranked number one in the world and justifiably so as he has won titles in what is arguably the toughest division in all of boxing. Hurd won his first championship on February 25, 2017 when he defeated Tony Harrison in a nine round technical knockout. Since that championship Hurd has won three fights in a row against Austin Trout, Erislandy Lara, and Jason Welborn. Welborn was the latest victim of Hurd in a fourth-round knockout that took place on December 1, 2018 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Since his loss to Jermall Charlo, Williams has won four fights in a row to get a second chance at his first ever world championship. In his last bout on December 1, 2018 Williams scored a second-round knockout win over Francisco Javier Castro at the Staples Center.

While Williams has the reputation of being courageous enough to fight anyone at any time Hurd is known for his record of championship excellence and dominance. This fight will be extra special for Hurd as he will be fighting in his own backyard of the Washington, DC area.

“I couldn’t be happier to be fighting at home for the first time as a champion,” said Hurd. “My home town has been asking me to bring the championship back home and now I can. Julian Williams is a tough opponent and I don’t see him as a stepping stone. He’s crafty, technical, and fundamentally sound. I want to go out and get a decisive win and show that I’m on a different level than everybody else in the division.”

As for Williams he is quite appreciative to get another shot at a title. “Jarrett Hurd is a good, strong fighter that’s really hot now. This is a home town fight for him but Philly isn’t far from Virginia. I’m looking forward to putting on an exciting fight for all of the fans, and most importantly winning those titles and showing the world that I am the best in the 154-pound division.”

Boxing Betting Tips

Williams claims to have matured since his loss to Charlo and perhaps he has. But Hurd is at another level all together. And just like last time against Charlo Williams is claiming he’ll win. The reality is that it’s highly unlikely that Hurd loses this fight.
