Carl Frampton (26-2, 15 knockouts)

In his last five fights, Frampton is 5-2. He lost to Josh Warrington by unanimous decision in December of 2018, won by 9th round TKO against Luke Jackson in August of 2018, won a unanimous decision against Nonito Donaire in April of 2018, won a unanimous decision against Horacio Garcia in November of 2017 and lost a majority decision to Leo Santa Cruz in January of 2017. Frampton gets a knockout win 57% of the time.

Frampton has not fought in almost a year, so this seems like a tuneup fight for him. He has fought far tougher competition than has McCreary and he should have a big edge. “I’m delighted to be making a comeback after what has been a horrific year in my career,” Frampton said to the media, “I didn’t get the Top Rank deal off to an ideal start, but coming back in Vegas is great for me, especially against a really strong opponent. It needed to be someone who would test me. McCreary is a quality opponent, but if I want to be competing against the top guys in the world, which I believe I can, then I need to be beating guys like him and doing it in style.”

Frampton realizes that there is no margin for error going forward. “The next fight I lose, I’m done. I’m absolutely going to say that, I will not box again so I’m not even thinking about that.” Frampton said to the media, “I’m thinking about winning this fight and pushing on for a world title. I want to win another world title, that’s my plan,” he added.

Tyler McCreary (16-0-1, 7 knockouts)

In his last five fights, McCreary is 5-0. He won a split decision against Jessie Cris Rosales in July, won a majority decision against Roberto Castaneda in March, knocked out Gustavo Molina in April of last year, won a unanimous decision against Edward Kakembo in July of 2017 and won a unanimous decision against Jonathan Perez in February of 2017. McCreary gets a knockout win 43% of the time.

McCreary has not lost in his career but he also hasn’t fought anyone of note. He has a lot of amateur experience, but he really hasn’t impressed in his limited pro experience. Despite that fact, McCreary is confident he can take the step up. “It’s a big step up for me, but I feel that I’m ready for it,” McCreary said to the media, “It’s an opportunity I couldn’t turn down, and I feel that every fight is a risk. This is one where, if anything, I would love to risk my undefeated record against a fighter like Frampton. A win here means a world title shot next.”

Boxing Picks

There is no doubt that Frampton is overrated and this price is ridiculous. The problem with backing McCreary is that he has fought no one in his career and he hasn’t even looked that good in his wins. Frampton should get this win, but there is no way I would lay this type of price. Neither of these fighters has that much power so the best choice would be to simply take the fight to go the distance and play the rounds over the total.
