One of the greatest and most memorable upsets in recent boxing history took place last February 9 when Andrew Cancio knocked out Alberto Machado in the fourth round for the World Boxing Association super featherweight title. It did not take promoters long to realize that a rematch would be a big draw and it was quickly arranged as Machado had the contractual right to one. Andrew Cancio vs. Alberto Machado II will take place at the exact same venue as the first bout. Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California will host what will be one of the hottest tickets in the country.

Fight Preview
This will be Andrew Cancio’s first title defense since his epic upset of Machado. The matchup of Cancio and Machado features different agendas. For Cancio it’s a chance to validate his title and prove that it was not an accidental fluke. For Machado it’s the ultimate twin killing chance at revenge and redemption.
“Andrew Cancio surprised the world when he dominated Alberto Machado in their first fight,” said Golden Boy Chief Executive Officer Oscar De La Hoya. “This was his toughest fight on paper, and he never looked better. This fight is a rematch, and Cancio is going to prove to himself that he can do it again.”
In the first fight between Cancio and Machado it was Cancio that was the underdog challenger going up against a well-respected defending champion. In fact, Cancio was coming out of a 19 month “retirement” after a ninth-round knockout loss to Joseph Diaz. In fact, after that fight Cancio was working at a gas company until he knocked out Machado.
“I’m very excited to be defending my world title against Alberto Machado in the rematch from my knockout victory,” said Cancio. “This is my 11th time fighting at Fantasy Springs Casino, and I look forward to defeating Machado again in convincing fashion in front of another huge crowd of my fans.”
Machado looks at this fight as the culmination of a quest to get his belt back. The loss to Cancio has kept him supremely motivated.
“Besides recovering my place as a world champion, a victory will have a special meaning for me, and that makes me very motivated,” said Machado.
The southpaw Machado hails from Puerto Rico and was not full prepared for his first fight against Cancio. In fact, Machado was struggling to make weight leading up to the bout. Machado had a promising start against Cancio when he knocked him down in the opening round, only to be knocked down by Cancio three times in the fourth round. It was such a devastating loss for Machado that he put off plans to go up in weight division and stay where he is so that he could get a shot at revenge and the return of his title belt against Cancio.
Boxing Betting Tips
“I hope Cancio is enjoying his time as a champion because I’m going in with bad intentions to bring that championship belt back to Puerto Rico,” vowed Machado. Yet Cancio did score a decisive win the first time. Look for a repeat in the rematch.
