Cruz last stepped into the ring on October 14, 2017 when he faced Chris Avalos at the StubHub Center in Carson. Cruz scored an eighth found knockout win over Chris Avalos for the World Boxing Association Super World Featherweight title. Avalos stopped standing and California rules determine that to be scored as a knockout.
