Clint Dempsey, Michael Bradley, Brad Guzan and the rest of the vets of the United States Men's National Team know just how important a good showing in Copa America is. The expectations at home are to reach at least the final of this event after failing at the Gold Cup, and anything short of getting into the semifinals might end up costing Jurgen Klinsmann his job.

UNITED STATES PROFILE

Team Nickname: The Yanks
Head Coach: Jurgen Klinsmann
FIFA World Ranking: 29
HOW THEY GOT HERE
The Americans aren't normally in Copa America, but they were asked to play in this field and to host it since it's the 100th anniversary of the event. It's a good thing, too. The United States hasn't been great in World Cup qualifying, and though it isn't in any real danger of not getting out of its current qualifying group, this tournament will likely end up being the measuring stick for whether Klinsmann will be around to try to get this team to Russia in 2018 or not.
The United States has won three of its four matches in the calendar year after a disastrous end to 2015. The only loss of the bunch was a 2-0 defeat in Guatemala City. It was a result which pushed the Americans into must-win territory against the same Guatemala side four nights later, but they did the job and won 4-0 to restore order.
KEY PLAYERS
Michael Bradley is the captain of this team now, and he'd better act like it and help go forward to help out these strikers. Bradley has 15 goals for his country in 113 matches, and he's really the best option in an otherwise relatively empty midfield.
Klinsmann's options are certainly there with Mix Diskerud, Kyle Beckerman, Graham Zusi, Alejandro Bedoya, Jermaine Jones and Fabian Johnson along with some other youngsters. Bradley though, is going to be the key player, and he really needs to have a good tournament here or risk losing his armband.
COPA AMERICA ODDS ANALYSIS AND QUICK PICK
This is a really tough group for the United States, but we think it'll get through everything in fine form and easily roll into the semifinals as long as Brazil does its job and wins Group B. Sure, the Americans haven't played all that well against some of the best teams in CONCACAF, but stepping away and playing against some South American teams might really end up helping them.
If Bradley does the job in the midfield along with some of his counterparts, we have all the confidence in the world that some combination of Gyasi Zardes, Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey and Chris Wondowski will end up putting enough balls in the back of the net.
There's still going to be a lot of pressure on the back line as well as Klinsmann still tries to figure out what the right combination of players is at the back line. However, here in a South American competition where scoring goals is a lot more important than just trying to keep the ball out of the back of the net, this should suit the Americans just fine. They're not good enough to beat Brazil or Argentina as we see it, but getting knocked out by a team of any other name would be an unmitigated disaster after the failures at the Gold Cup and in the Confederations Cup playoff.
