Today, we'll take a look at Haiti and its odds of winning this top South American competition.

It's not all that often that invited teams have any real impact on Copa America, but it also isn't all that often that a team with as little pedigree as Haiti gets into the field. Still, a playoff against Trinidad & Tobago went the way of the Haitians, so no one can take away their place in Copa America for the first time in their history. The results here in the United States though, will likely end up being rather forgettable.

HAITI PROFILE

Odds To Win Copa America: +50000

Team Nickname: Les Grenadiers

Head Coach: Patrice Neveu

FIFA World Ranking: 71

HOW THEY GOT HERE

Haiti has played in one World Cup in its history, that being in 1974 when it was laughed out of Germany with three losses and a 14-2 goal differential allowed. It did have a relatively successful 2015 Gold Cup in which it won a match and reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 2009, but that's about all of the history we have on this team of any note.

After the Gold Cup last year, Haiti had to qualify just to get into the first group stage of World Cup qualifying in CONCACAF. It disposed of Grenada relatively easily, but since that point, Les Grenadiers haven't had any luck whatsoever against some of the top teams in the region. That's why it was so disappointing to see Haiti qualify for this tournament instead of Trinidad and Tobago. Neither one would've had an impact on the field, but at least T&T could hang and get into the knockout rounds if given a friendly draw as Haiti truly got.

KEY PLAYERS

Kervens Belfort scored the goal against T&T late on which put Haiti into this tournament, making him a real hero at home. He's sure to get the nod up top, perhaps playing alongside Wilde-Donald Guerrier, a man who has some experience playing international club soccer with Wisla Krakow.

It's the midfield where we see the real problems for Haiti. There isn't a man available here who has played against any serious competition. There's a good chance that all four starting midfielders will be playing in either the USL or the NASL, and never have we seen a team with so many lower level American soccer players go on to succeed at this level.

Johnny Placide is the captain for Les Grenadiers in spite of the fact that he's only made 27 career appearances and is just 27 years old, but he's playing legitimate international soccer at Reims and is probably the most talented player on the team.

COPA AMERICA ODDS ANALYSIS AND QUICK PICK

Peru is favored by a goal and a half on the Asian Handicap in the first match in Group B for Haiti, and that's the easiest of the three duels. The best result here we can forecast is a point in this match, but even then, there's just no hope whatsoever. If the Haitians can get outscored by fewer than five goals in their three matches in Group B, they should probably consider themselves relatively lucky.

Instead, we'd bet on Haiti getting clocked by at least five by Brazil alone, especially if the latter struggles against Ecuador in the opening match and badly needs three points.

Haiti is the perfect example of why tournaments like this shouldn't expand so far. This is a team with no business playing against the best South American teams, and it should've really never had the shot to qualify.

Good on Haiti for winning the playoff with Trinidad and Tobago, but that will be the last celebrating the Haitians are able to partake in as it pertains to Copa America Centenario.
