If you just went ahead and made a list of the best players hitting the field in Copa America in Group D, how many players would you name in a row before you got to someone who wasn't Argentine? It would be at least a few names for sure, and probably eight of the best 10 are all on this roster. That's why Argentina is the favorite to win Copa America Centenario.

Team Nickname: La Albiceleste

Head Coach: Gerardo Martino

FIFA World Ranking: 1

HOW THEY GOT HERE

Argentina is ranked No. 1 in the world by a comfortable margin, so of course it has to be here in its continental tournament. Still, there are reasons for concern involving Argentina's history in Copa America. The team was a finalist in this tournament last year, losing to Chile in the finale on penalties. Prior to that in 2011 at home, the team finished in the quarterfinals, while the two tournaments before that, it finished second best each time.

Throw in there the fact that Argentina finished as the runner-up in Brazil in 2014, and you've got the makings of a team which is starting to be doubted. This is supposed to be a golden age of Argentinian soccer, and at some point, the club needs some silverware to back that up.

KEY PLAYERS

Lionel Messi still might be the best player in the world, and the embarrassment of riches he has around him is insane. He's got 50 goals playing for his country in 107 matches, and he's very likely to add to that in a big time way here in the United States. He's got better forwards around him at Barcelona, but it's not like Manchester City's Sergio Aguero and Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain are stiffs.

Messi also has one of the best midfields in the world to work with on this roster. Javier Mascherano and Angel Di Maria have been anchors on this roster for quite some time, and that will be the case again in Copa America.

If we have a concern, it's in net. Sergio Romero is the backup net minder for Manchester United, and he doesn't get a heck of a lot of work as a result. Still, he's the best keeper option La Albiceleste has to offer, as he has 72 Caps versus the six combined for the other eligible goalies.

COPA AMERICA ODDS ANALYSIS AND QUICK PICK

This is really setting up for Argentina to roll into the final. Group D should provide no challenges whatsoever, especially if the Argentines come out for blood against Chile after losing to it in the Copa America final less than 12 months ago. When all of that shakes out, it's possible that another South American team won't even show up on the docket until the finale. Sure, if Argentina runs into the United States in the semifinal, that could be a hassle, but these semifinal matches are supposed to be a royal pain.

In the end though, there isn't a team we would absolutely say should be able to give Argentina a match. When Messi and Aguero are on their game, there aren't many in the world who can slow the Argentines down. They haven't finished the job to claim major silverware yet in this era, but this could be the tournament where Messi finally gets his trophy. We surely aren't betting against this team in Copa America, though it would be irresponsible not to mention the fact that this price is insanely short on any team to best a 16-team field of really any reasonable caliber.
