Ecuador might not be the most talented team in CONMEBOL, but it certainly is one of the more experienced. If age is served over beauty at Copa America Centenario, La Tri could go on a really nice run and perhaps be the sweethearts of the tournament.

Team Nickname: La Tri

FIFA World Ranking: 12

HOW THEY GOT HERE

As a CONMEBOL member, Ecuador was granted immediate access into this tournament. The team hasn't had the best history in Copa America in the past, as it hasn't reached the knockout rounds since 1997, including a first round exit last year from the tournament.

Still, these Ecuadorians have been in good form of late and are well on their way to a second straight World Cup showing. They've won four of their six matches in CONMEBOL qualifying for the World Cup, and though that isn't nearly enough yet, it's a great start. Getting to eight wins is typically enough to get through to at least the playoff, and that would be a reasonable goal for this squad.

KEY PLAYERS

We kicked this off by mentioning all of the experience which the Ecuadorians are bringing to the table, and it starts with Walter Ayovi at the back. He's put on an Ecuador shirt 111 times in his career and has eight goals to his credit. He's not an elite level defender anymore, but he's one of the most Capped players in the history of this team. He'll have three men back there with him in Jorge Guagua, Juan Carlos Paredes and Frickson Erazo who have each played at least 57 times.

The real issue we have though, is where the goals are coming from. Segundo Castillo and Antonio Valencia are probably the two most forward-thinking midfielders the squad is bringing to the table at Copa America, while up front, there are some really tough decisions to make.

Felipe Caicedo has the most appearances and the most goals for his country on the team at 59 and 19 respectively, but there are a lot of other young options to choose from here as well. Keep an eye on Enner Valencia, a man who is playing his club soccer at West Ham in the Premier League. He's scored 14 times in 24 appearances for his country and could be a force to be reckoned with in Copa America.

COPA AMERICA ODDS ANALYSIS AND QUICK PICK

The real problem we have with Ecuador is its path to get into the semifinals, one which we think is absolutely impossible to navigate. It's not a given that the team will beat Peru and Haiti to get into the quarterfinals, and even if it does get through those two relatively manageable matches, the QF matchup will almost certainly come against either one of the most talented teams in the field (Colombia) or the host nation (the United States). Neither one of those paths is exactly friendly.

Still, the price on Ecuador isn't a bad one at 33 to 1. We have no doubt that La Tri have one of the better teams in South America and will get into the World Cup once again this year. Any time you've got a team with this much talent on it, you have to at least consider what could happen. Ecuador could beat the United States, and it could hang with Colombia. The likelihood of either happening though, isn't good. We'd say there's a better chance the Ecuadorians get knocked out of Copa America in the group stage for the seventh straight time than there is for them getting into the semifinals.
