Maintaining the job of Mexico's national soccer coach is never easy, but Juan Carlos Osorio is on his way to keeping his post for quite some time. He's led El Tri to the Hexagonal in World Cup qualifying early in the proceedings, and he's hoping to have a good showing in Copa America this year as well to pretty much assure himself of keeping his job through the World Cup in 2018 in Russia.

Team Nickname: El Tri

Head Coach: Juan Carlos Osorio

FIFA World Ranking: 16

HOW THEY GOT HERE

Mexico is always an invitee to Copa America, so it feels like an honorary CONMEBOL member for these purposes. These last two visits to Copa America haven't been good at all, as Eli Tri has gone 0-2-4 in their last six in this tournament dating back to Copa America 2011.

However, the form Mexico in is sharp at the moment. The team parlayed a win in the Confederations Cup playoff against the United States into a six-match winning streak in regular time. The Mexicans haven't allowed a goal in almost 550 minutes of match time after allowing nine goals in their previous five matches combined. The team has also scored twice or more in five straight matches and in 10 of its last 11.

KEY PLAYERS

The real coup for the Mexicans is how well their midfield has played on this run. Jesus Manual Corona has been on a goal-scoring binge with strikes in three of his last four games. Andres Guardado was the hero of the Gold Cup with so many meaningful goals, and he had the goal against the United States which put Mexico in the Confederations Cup.

Marco Fabian, Hector Herrera and Javier Aquino are all strong options to boot.

The real key is going to be the play of whomever is in net. Jose de Jesus Corona feels like the most logical option for this tournament, though Alfred Talavera and Guillermo Ochoa are both options as well. The decision is going to be a crucial one for Osorio, as the wrong choice in a group like this could spell disaster.

COPA AMERICA ODDS ANALYSIS AND QUICK PICK

We love the way this pans out for Mexico. In spite of the fact that this team hasn't played well in Copa America recently, the tournament being played in the United States should help it a lot. El Tri have been in fantastic form, and they're essentially going to get a chance to play three home games in the group stage in Glendale, Pasadena and Houston.

The first match against Uruguay might not go all that well, but that's alright if it doesn't so long as Mexico stays focused and keeps its eye on the prize. The Mexicans should take care of Jamaica and Venezuela, and as long as they do that, they're get into the last eight regardless of what happens in that first fixture.

In terms of advancing beyond the first stage of the tournament, we really like Mexico's chances. Finishing in front of Uruguay would setup a date with Chile, Panama or Bolivia, the projected runner-up from Group D. Finishing behind Uruguay would leave Mexico playing against presumably Argentina, but that match would be played in Santa Clara and would feel like a home game.

As long as the midfield continues to play as well for Mexico as it has in recent weeks and possesses the ball a ton in each of these matches, it'll have a shot of going all the way. We think El Tri will come up short, but they're worth a bet at 10 to 1 in our eyes to win Copa America for the first time.
