It took Levante until the 21st Century to become a relative mainstay in the top tier of Spanish football, but they have largely been able to hold onto their place in La Liga since 2004. The club has spent 11 of the last 15 seasons in La Liga, and that is an impressive feat even if they have only finished in the top half of the table twice.

Unlike some of the other relative newcomers to La Liga, Levante has been able to take part in European competition. Levante’s sixth-place finish in the 2011-12 earned the club a spot in the Europa League the following season, and they were able to make it to the Round of 16 before bowing out.

They have not had the same success as city rival Valencia, but the meetings between these two are the highlights of the year for Levante supporters. The club has not won in Valencia’s Mestalla Stadium since 1937, but they have knocked off their city rivals in four of their last five matches on their home grounds.

The club acquired Erick Cabaco from Uruguay’s Nacional and Coke from FC Schalke 04 on a full-time basis with the hope of being better at the back this year. Boateng is the one to keep an eye on though. He showcased his potential in the win against Barcelona, but he will miss the first month of the season with a meniscus injury.
