2026 FIFA World Cup Group B Odds and Preview

Switzerland is the negative odds favorite to win Group B and advance to the knockout stage of World Cup 2026. There are some compelling storylines within the group making the foursome a tantalizing watch. As co-host Canada gained automatic entry and is the second favorite to win the group ahead of surprising Bosnia & Herzegovina, which advanced by penalty kicks over former champion Italy in qualification playoffs.

Qatar is a long shot to win the group boasting the longest odds. It doesn’t help that they haven’t played a competitive match in 2026 due to regional conflict. But hey, at least the team will be well rested with no injury concerns ahead of the first match. Qatar did qualify for its first World Cup through competition on the pitch rather than as host, which it did in 2022. Group B play begins on June 12 with Canada facing Bosnia in Toronto. Switzerland and Qatar square off the following day in Northern California.

Odds to win Group B

Switzerland -110

Canada +260

Bosnia & Herzegovina +285

Qatar +3700

While the expanded World Cup field gives countries a chance to qualify for the most prestigious tournament in sports, it also makes the path to the title more challenging for less talented teams. The clubs will be competitive against each other in group play, but surviving five consecutive single-elimination matches against stiffer competition is a stiff chore. World Cup futures odds depict that with Switzerland having the shortest odds to win the title at +9000 on the early board. Playing matches on home soil could give Canada a boost. Bosnia & Herzegovina and Qatar are the long shots to make a run.

Group B doesn’t contain a World Cup title contender but it is one of the more interesting foursomes, and not because this particular group has never produced a champion. Technically sound in its structure, Switzerland is the most complete team in the group. Canada will play all three group matches on home soil, Bosnia is coming off upset wins in qualifying and Qatar is simply looking to play.

Group B Team Previews

Switzerland -110

Switzerland gained entry to the World Cup with an unbeaten qualifying session winning four matches with a pair of draws while conceding just 2 goals. The defensive structure is sound backed by one of the most experienced goalkeepers in the tournament Gregor Kobel. A convincing 4-1 win over Sweden in the cycle showed the club balancing defensive presence with an ability to produce offense. Captain Granit Xhaka and Breel Embolo provide enough offensively to make the Swiss a threat.

Group Match Schedule:

June 13: vs. Qatar, 3 p.m. ET, Santa Clara, US

June 18: vs. Bosnia & Herzegovina, 3 p.m. ET, Inglewood, US

June 24: vs. Canada, 3 p.m. ET, Vancouver, CN

Canada +260

Having high expectations and living up to them are two different things. As tournament co-host the Canadians will have additional pressure, but under coach Jesse Marsch they’ve upgraded competition to prepare for this moment. A respectable fourth-place showing at the 2024 Copa America put Canada in the spotlight, though recent setbacks were bothered by injury concerns to top players. When healthy Canada can compete with anyone, but depth remains a concern should Jonathan David, Tajon Buchanan or Alphonso Davies pull up lame.

June 18: vs. Qatar, 6 p.m. ET, Vancouver, CN

June 24: vs. Switzerland, 3 p.m. ET, Vancouver, CN

Bosnia & Herzegovina +285

Back on the global stage for the first time since 2014, Bosnia & Herzegovina aims to ride the momentum of a historic qualification run. Their spot was secured with a pair of dramatic penalty shot wins over Wales and heavily favored Italy. They are physical and relentless in their approach making up for a lack of offensive skill by forcing mistakes. Edin Dzeko tallied 6 markers in 9 qualifying matches, but relying on a 40-year-old striker isn’t sustainable.

June 18: vs. Switzerland, 3 p.m. ET, Inglewood, US

June 24: vs. Qatar, 3 p.m. ET, Seattle, US

Qatar +3700

Simply qualifying through competition rather than as hosts (2022) is a win for Qatar. Preparation for the Cup has been stunted by cancelled matches leaving the club without a competitive game since December. Not the ideal way to enter the global competition and a leaky defense that allowed 24 goals in the third qualifying stage is troublesome. Almoez Ali is a top scorer, but unless the defense gets figure out the Qataris will struggle.
