La Liga Matchday 30 Odds Report

The race for the last La Liga Champions League spot hit a big speedbump last weekend. The teams that were fourth, fifth, and sixth in the league all lost at home, and none of those three teams even managed to score a goal. Getafe were blanked by Leganes, Alaves were hammered 1-0 by Atletico Madrid, and Sevilla fell to a Valencia side that is now level with them on points. Those results have only upped the stakes, and now we have a four-way race for the final Champions League spot in Spain.

Getafe are in fourth place and a point up on Alaves and three points up on both Sevilla and Valencia. Getafe are underdogs this week though. They must travel to Barcelona to take on Espanyol, and Espanyol have been fantastic at home. Espanyol are 8-1-5 at home this season, but Getafe have earned a result in 13 of their 15 away matches.

It’s not surprising to see Atletico Madrid as a big home favorite against a mid-level club, but Girona are a bit different than most middle of the table teams. Girona have been much better on the road than they have at home with a 6-4-4 road record, and they have the league’s top non-Barcelona goal scorer in Cristhian Stuani. Stuani has 17 goals this season, and he has netted five times in Girona’s last six matches.

The game of the day is Villarreal hosting Barcelona. The Blaugrana are running away with La Liga, but Villarreal are a notoriously difficult team to beat. The Yellow Submarine are just one point ahead of the relegation zone, and they need a result after losing to Celta Vigo last week.

Celta Vigo +170
Draw +229
Over/Under 2.5

SD Eibar -156
Rayo Vallecano +425
Draw +302

Athletic Bilbao -166
UD Levante +482

Valencia CF +225
Real Madrid +112
Draw +269
Over/Under 3

Celta Vigo are just a point behind Villarreal after their win last week, and they can hop the Yellow Submarine to stay out of the relegation zone with a win over last place Huesca. Huesca have been surprisingly game and nearly picked up a draw against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu before Karim Benzema scored in the 89th minute.

Real Madrid are now 2-0 since Zinedine Zidane’s return to the sidelines, but both of those games were against lightweights at home. They travel for their first real test against a quality club when they face Valencia on Wednesday. Madrid got some help from a Daniel Wass own goal in their first meeting, and Valencia are out to level the score.

April 4

CD Leganes -108
Real Valladolid +347
Draw +217
Over/Under 2

Sevilla FC -191
Deportivo Alaves +486
Draw +328
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

Real Sociedad +123
Real Betis Balompie +228
Draw +225
Over/Under 2 and 2.5

Even though Alaves are ahead of Sevilla in the table, Sevilla are massive favorites against them on Thursday. Sevilla are 8-3-3 at home and have the second-most home goals in all of La Liga, and Alaves will likely play for a draw. Alaves are in fifth place despite having a negative goal differential, but they have picked up a result in five of their last six matches.

Valladolid have started to improve and just in the nick of time. They are just two points clear of the relegation zone, but many think they will drop with Villarreal and Celta Vigo surviving. A road win over Leganes would be huge in proving the doubters wrong.
